Actually, it's more like 2:1, but CNBC viewers are much more attractive to advertisers, thus the reason CNBC HD was first.

Ummm, why are you pinning hope on something a clueless CSR stated? ;)

First lesson, never take anything you hear from a CSR as fact or even hope. We know more then they do in terms of channel launches.

Second, to expect *any* HD channel launches until next year is really hoping. I don't expect any additions at all this year. If any come it's a super bonus.

Since the post Satelliteracer responded to is very clearly about a D12 launch in September, I think it is quite safe to say that Satelliteracer is saying that the D12 launch is planned for December instead of September.

I don't know if it amounts to much, but Lyngsat reports the launch of D12 as follows:

    0909 late - DirecTV 12 - Proton - 101.0°W 87 Ka tps - C Hoffman 090127

So, I have faith and I'm still betting on late in September for the launch.

Based on the date of the projection (January 27th, 2009), I think you're grasping at straws.

anik's launch schedule, updated today, strongly supports that a September launch is not particularly likely. At some point, optimism has to give way to the realities.

I'm not grasping at anything. I'm remaining optimistic and reporting the news from the perspective of Lyngsat. C Hoffman has a lot of updates on that site and most of them are accurate.

The bottom line for me is I'm okay with D12 going up in September or December. I'm okay with anything that DirecTV wants to give me in terms of additional high-definition programming and I'm okay if they don't add anything. I like the service I have now. It is worth the money that I'm paying and the picture quality is outstanding. I prefer that they only add programming in ways that will not degrade the picture quality for what I'm already getting. Would I like a channel or two more? Of course, I personally want BBCA-HD, Chiller HD (when it's available), OuterMAX, Showtime Beyond and HBO Comedy. However, I'm not impatient and I'll gladly wait for more and enjoy what I have now.

When I look at the Lyngsat launch pages for this and the next three years, I see only one entry by C Hoffman. The entry also shows DIRECTV 12 is slated for 101.0W which we know isn't true based on the March documentation that places the destination at 103W.

Look beyond the launch pages. C Hoffman has his name on a number of channel additions per satellite, etc. Anyway, this is my last post on the subject. I remain optimistic and leace you to your own opinion.

I thought D12 was going to 101w. I am probably wrong, but i thought I read that somewhere.

On the topic of "More HD" I noticed that the latest DirecTV Newsletter in my bill is highlighting the next season of Mad Men as starting on AMC SD Aug 15th. Is it technically possible for DirecTV to free up a PFV channel on a temporary basis and broadcast a featured program or channel in HD? Mad Men and Breaking Bad should be seen in HD as intended. Seems strange for DirecTV to push a critically acclaimed program that it only broadcasts in SD when the HD version is available and some other providers broadcast it in HD.

It's going to 103 by all accounts. The 101 reference turned up in a financial filing and was certainly a mistake.

It's not that strange. There's still a lot of people out there without HD. For some people who don't know better, the ads might create the illusion that show is available from DirecTV in HD. The second season of Breaking Bad has already aired this year and D* didn't carry it in HD.

The big hindrance to us getting AMC-HD, assuming bandwidth is available, is that Cablevision seems to be only allowing other cable companies to carry it. As far as I know, it's not on any satellite or telco system.

Our best and probably only hope right now is D* working out an agreement that allows them to carry Mad Men in HD "on-Demand." Before there was an AMC HD that was how some cable companies showed the program. Otherwise you're better off either waiting for the Blu-rays or searching torrent sites the next morning if you want to watch the show with decent picture quality.

I hope you're not confusing channel launches with satellite launches. One typically follows the other, but that's pretty much the only connection.

I remain convinced that, while September may end up being right, you're not doing yourself any favors using Lyngsat for satellite launch information.
