Very nice recap, harsh
Thank you for taking the time to contact us. We regret that you have been unsatisfied with the channel of late and hope that you will reconsider BBC America in the future. BBC America takes the opinions of viewers such as yourself very seriously. Rest assured we will forward your remarks on to the appropriate department(s).
Thank you again for your comments.
This is just getting to be stupid, Directv was the Leader in HD, what happened!
Not having BBC America is just stupid; it's one of the stations that has programming that is really different and appealing.
The year of 2009 (which shall forever be known as the year of Digital TV!) Shall be footnoted by DIRECTV adding only TWO new national HD Channels. !rolling
Actually 3 (so far): MLB Network, Comedy Central and BET.
We shouldn't write a year it review yet, its only July, and D12 isn't even up yet!
MLB is just another sports channel IMO and I really don't think D12 is the reason we have not gotten more HD. If you look at the Transponder maps you can see where much more could be fit into the existing spots.
Without even getting into available space on 103 and 99 lets just look at the National Networks on 110 and 119 that where just eliminated, why dont they shuffle some of the Sports HD stuff onto that Bandwidth so that they free up space for BBC HD and all the others.
Its still a national channel.
So you don't give DIRECTV credit for being ahead of the curve and rolling-out "how-many" HD channels in 2008????
So as far as national non-PPV non-RSN, 2008 was the year of:
Disney Channel HD
Toon Disney HD
Showtime Extreme HD
Showtime Showcase HD
Planet Green HD
ABC Family HD
Fox News Channel HD
Crime & Investigation HD
and the splitting of Versus/Golf HD into two separate channels
Am I missing anything?
Yep, the mirroring of all the old MPEG2 HD channels as MPEG4 HD channels.
That doesn't count because they were already available to everyone one way or another.
Possibly an interesting aside, but not a rollout of new HD channels.
So if that's all we got in 2008, how many did we get in 2007? USA HD, CNN HD, etc. My point being that the previous poster was criticizing DIRECTV for not living up to "2009 as the year of Digital TV" when in fact DIRECTV had rolled out scores of channels PRIOR to 2009 ... (And by the way, DIRECTV has been digital for quite some time.)
Yes, not a rollout of new channels but that did take a bunch of bandwidth away which could have been used for new channels. And yes while they were available in MPEG2 the MPEG4 versions have better PQ on them which is something that many people were happy to see when they started to mirror them.
D10 full, D11 63 slots 24x7.
National, RSN's, Legacy MPEG2 migration, DNS, 1080p, Cinema, Premium Sports Packages ... different strokes for different folks.
Get these two channels on D* and I'll be happy with my HD for a good while.
I second this choice. I would love to see both of these channels upgraded to HD, especially ESPNU.
Also, Encore HD would be nice, even though most of the movies shown are fairly old.
I still can't believe we don't have Encore HD yet, (and E* does) who are owned by Starz, who are owned by the same company that owns D*, Liberty Media.
I can wait another year for the rest of the HD channels to be added. I barely have time to watch everything I want to watch as it is. Hopefully my locals will be added as well at that time due to the fact that I don't have OTA for my H23.
good thing i still have time warner cable..they have both now...although i am sure that if and when D ever gets them they will look much better...
I have so much stuff recorded that I had to cut my netflix back to one a week so I could catch up. I have limited watching time.
