I have no interest in tennis but that's crazy!!

the 5th set alone has been over 7 hrs long, longer than the previous MATCH record of 6 hrs 33 minutes at the 2004 French Open

10+ hours so far (and on it's 3rd day) is just insane.

While I'm not really a tennis fan, I did follow this on TV last night - WOW!

I would think they need to determine some way to avoid this in the future, as it would seem very physically taxing and run the risk of serious health issues at some point...athletes or not.

I think it's like those 20+ inning marathon baseball games... Yeah, they suck when they happen and you begin to think no one will ever win... but it truly is a rare event, so not something worth changing the rules over.

That said... Tennis has always been quirky to me because it is a sport where you can actually win more games than your opponent but still lose the match!

    Best 3-out-of-5 sets...
Name|Set 1|Set 2|Set 3|Set 4|Set 5
    Player 1|6|6|6|6|6
    Player 2|3|7|3|7|7
Player 2 wins the match... but Player 1 actually won more games total.

Granted, it probably doesn't happen like that often... but it can.

It actually happens quite a bit, but it's not much different than playoff series in other sports.

A team in baseball could win a 3 or 5 game series even though they were outscored in total. Same with basketball and hockey.

A very nice explanation. Thank you.

But I must admit I'm tired just thinking about it now... :D:lol:

    Imagine how they feel! ;)
