Save the "Whatever" channel? What a joke!

"Whatever" it is they are showing is NOT weather!

Hey Brian Roberts! How about showing the Weather 24/7. Then and only then would I even consider trying to help your situation.

    I guess it's true..."You can't fix stupid!"

TWC has increasing fallen into silliness on lots of their presentations. I figure a lot of this has to do with NBC buying them, but they began degrading even before then. They are following the same pattern as most tv weather shows on broadcast...become the loudest over-hyped guy on the block and viewers will follow. There is plenty of available weather info that doesn';t rely on tv people so just everyone can just quit getting agitated over this.

You are already paying for NWS products via taxes and that is where all these people get their data to resell to you. Get a weather radio or link to the closest NWS internet site through your phone or computer and get it first-hand and free. If you are interested in getting all worked up over this, get congress to overturn the NOAA policy that keeps NWS people from being on TV and presenting it to you themselves.

Isn't The Weather Channel a Comcast property? And Comcast in Atlanta might drop them? Does that not raise any flags at The Weather Channel??

I might tune in to TWC once a month or less. Easier, quicker, and more current just to use my iPhone or iPad.

I still have the weather channel on fios. I tune in this morning to see what is up. They are doing a story on Chris Christie misappropriating Hurricane Sandy funds. Weather related BUT NOT WEATHER!

I like the accuweather channel idea. It isn't as if they would have to build from scratch. They already have name recognition from the weather forecasts on local news broadcasts.

Yes, that's the only downside. I really liked that app though it wasn't terrible accurate for my neck of the woods.
It can be replaced. But will it??

Out of all of the weather services on the internet, it seems to me that Accuweather is the most accurate out there. It is exciting to hear that they will be starting up their own channel to compete with TWC.

Love how TWC says to contact Congress about the drop. LOL. Nothing like a bit of scare tactics to rile people up huh?

Personally, I use Accuweather and Wunderground.

Man, heads will roll in the Comcast/NBC/Weather channel land - talk about overplaying your hand - they have a unsuited 2 and 7, imho.... Great, great timing by accuweather on the announcement.
And you know what? If Directv is really telling TWC and Comcast that they want to pay less for the weather channel, that's another reason for me to love Directv! Not Directv's fault if The Weather Channel thought people would interested in yet-another-crappy-reality-TV channel.

La times has more on the story:

    http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/envelope/cotown/la-et-ct-weather-channel-off-directv-20140113,0,4788207.story#axzz2qOQSlgS9

    http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/envelope/cotown/la-et-ct-weather-channel-directv-20140113,0,4281398.story#axzz2qOQSlgS9

I really like the following quote from the second article:

"If the Weather Channel does come off DirecTV and there are no howls of protests from subscribers that force its return, the channel's executives may have to rethink their strategy. Under that scenario, other distributors would likely follow DirecTV's lead, and that could be a bad forecast for the Weather Channel."

This subscriber here already made clear on multiple forums to Directv that I'd rather that Directv drops this crappy reality TV channel, so I hope the bad forecast materializes.

Their Facebook page is quite hilarious. A lot of people are posting exactly what most having been saying here and then you see the copy and paste job they do responding to these people showing they have no heart in the matter really at all with their canned responses.

I spent about 20 minutes watching the Weather Nation and I like it. Very much like what TWC was when it started and before it was ruined by Comcast/NBC. I could not care less if it ever comes back.

Right now, less than 24 hours after their weather marathon when they tried to prove they did weather, the weather channel has on Weather Caught on Camera with NO current weather information at all. I see it on fios. No ticker. No local weather. No national weather. Just a hug saying the weather channel and a title of the show in the corner.

And now it is 8 minutes past the hour. No break for weather on the 8s. Oops. Past the 8 minutes. And yet we just get old video.

    Lying sacks of.....
