What I understand from reading here is that is NOT a DVR fee but is a $5 TIVO Fee and that is PER (new) TIVO receiver. Two THR22 and that will add $10 on top. OUCH!

And this is truly a Tivo fee, not one that DirecTV has any control over as far as I know.

I'm moving this thread to the TiVo forum.

I posted the same question in another forum and never received any real answer or official information.

I originally bought three Directivos for around $199-399 each and the $249 lifetime TiVo subscription way back. Directv has changed that lifetime service to multiple things over the years on my bill. Here are the different iterations...

    1) LIFETIME TIVO
    2) LIFETIME DIRECTV DVR (WAS TIVO)
    3) DIRECTV DVR (TiVo) Lifetime
    4) DIRECTV DVR Lifetime
    5) DIRECTV DVR Service Fee Lifetime

Over the years I moved to the HRxx platform and no longer have any Directivos active.

From what I've read, I still would have to pay the $5 / month TiVo fee, correct?

I honestly am not sure of the answer here. I have been told some conflicting things. The best thing is to be patient and polite with a CSR and see what happens.

If you have the "lifetime", then you will not pay the DVR fee, assuming your account is flagged correctly.

The "lifetime" does not cover the additional tivo up charge.

I can see what they are doing, and I suspect TiVo is getting $x per active receiver, but I must say when I first got a DVR it was a TiVo, and I went lifetime, and when DirecTV got the DirecTiVo (heck I still have it on the shelf, as it was an SD unit, and then I got the HD when it came out) I paid for Lifetime TiVo service (really it was a steal at $199. So kind of a shame if you choose to go back to TiVo, you have to continue to pay the fee (greed), as TiVo is what was purchased to begin with..

Still overall, I think that new HMC34 looks far more interesting, so not sure I plan on losing much sleep over the tivo fees..

If you just had a new Tivo, would you still have to pay the DirecTV DVR fee AND the TiVo DVR fee? Or is that only if you have some of each? (and is the TiVo fee really per box?)

Yes, you pay both the $7 per account DVR fee, plus the $5/mo Tivo. Still not 100% clear if the $5/mo Tivo fee covers all Tivos, or just one.

FYI, for those who have Directv lifetime DVR service you should not be paying for the Tivo Service Fee of $5.00. I called to activate my new THR22 on Monday December 26th, and it was activated without the monthly tivo $5.00 fee (it just shows 0.00 on recent activity online plus the directv CSR woman said it would be zero too.) I made no special demands since I think the directv computer knew I had the lifetime service so it was going to make the tivo service 0 anyway.
