The media didn't tell people their missing families were dead. They provided figures from a normally reputable source. I wish the ME would have been more careful in the reporting, but when an official steps forward and makes a statement what is the media supposed to do? Bury the story? "The ME has released an official death toll and they say they expect it to climb ... but we're not going to report the official number."

I don't care what their source is , If the media had any respect for the situation, they wouldn't be worried about a death count 30 minutes after the storm.
They wouldn't spout off BS until the official search is completed.

If you're going to complain at least keep your facts straight! NO MEDIA was reporting 51 dead "30 minutes after the storm". That number did not come out until later in the evening. 30 minutes after the storm the media were just getting set up on the ground and reporting from the west edge of the destruction ... working their way toward the more heavily damaged areas.

(The death toll four hours after the tornado was 37.)

Point is they should not be worried about the death count period, until all the search and rescue is completed!

Why make a bad situation worse for ratings.

You want to stand up for the media you go right ahead. But in this case they were way out of line!

The point is when you lie you lose. That mention of "37" dead was an early count ... HOURS into coverage. Despite your false claims the media did not report numbers until hours had passed and the official tally had begun. What you are asking the media to do is NOT report official information about the storm. A request that seems to be contrary to your rant against the media.

Perhaps you were way out of line for watching the coverage. You should have been watching something else.

People are quick to blame others ... but people were watching. And the responsibility of the media is to pass on the information that they know about a news story. Official reports are as close as one gets to knowing.

False information is any claim that the media was promoting death counts 30 minutes after the storm. :sure:
