Does he see the same tweaking of the 99s/103s screens to show 'N/A' for all tpns other than the ones locals are delivered on?

 

Well they have been doing that for years.

And yeah I've always wondered why they did it for here and not everywhere. I have to think they wanted to test this and decided it was to much work after they succeed in Los Angeles market to roll it out everywhere.

And since the three SD x'pndrs (13, 14, and 23) at 79W overlap with HD ones, can you tell if the SD channels are in MPEG-4 SD and multiplexed along with the HD ones?

May be we will see D15 coming alive next year ... perhaps it's linked to activation RB and tpn bonding after all the hashing with D14 will be settled ?

 

If they're successful in getting everything off SW1, or even getting it down to only one or two active transponders, they could at the very least use some of D15's CONUS transponders 1-8. Though that assumes they have something to put there, i.e. bringing on a lot more HD channels.

Otherwise, it may not do much until Q3 2018 when they're supposed to start using reverse band.

 

Didn't Directv already move the Portland channels from SW1 to D14 and back again not long ago? When they moved it back someone was speculating that maybe it didn't work so well because it was 9 HD channels?

They've got 9 channels again, are they still all HD? Did they alter the modulation on that transponder to get a higher bit rate? Otherwise it isn't clear what's changed since the last time they tried it...

Interesting news about D5 being down to 8 channels. Can they remove everything from 110, or does PR need it for guide data? Or maybe the plan is to move the SD channels from SW1 to D5 so they can finally decom SW1?

 

I would imagine the latter if it allows them more bandwidth elsewhere

 

Taking SW1 out of service for CONUS and taking it out of service completely doesn't really matter as far as more bandwidth. Either way they can enable 103ca tpns 1-8 for programming to the US.

AFAIK they have never done anything with SW2 have they? It is still in its slot, just not transmitting anything. I guess it is being kept around as a backup in case D14 has problems, to at least provide some locals? Maybe SW1 will similarly remain as a backup for D12, so it wouldn't make much difference to them whether it still carries PR channels or not.

 

Except that if they are using those frequencies for conus why wouldn't they also mirror that to Puerto Rico like you're doing with the other frequencies so they can get even more channels to Puerto Rico as well as the US without using two satelites.

 

Until they've got all 16 CONUS tpns on D14 mirroring to PR, plus all 16 CONUS tpns on D15 (9-24) worrying about whether they can use D15 tpns 1-8 for more PR mirroring is pointless. They don't need them.

Well sure. But I imagine they have rights to most everything they have renewed in the last five years. I was pondering if it's just bandwidth that has been holding them back. Do they get more Spanish channels? Do they have their own locals? I have no idea...
