Just got a new HR24 and a new AM21 and thought things were going great. Until I tried to record one OTA channel and watch another at the same time. When I try that, at least one of the OTA channeles starts having severe pixelation, drop-outs and looks like it is breaking up.

Is anyone successfully using an AM21 with an HR24? Is anyone else seeing the same problem?

Thanks for the reply. However the other thread mentions that not all OTA channels showing up. That's not the same issue I'm seeing.

All my correct OTA channels are available. But it can't seem to handle both tuners being set to OTA simultaneously. If I set one program to record from OTA and try to watch another OTA station live, the picture and sound break up.

If I connect the same AM21 using the same antenna to an HR22, it works perfectly.

    Thanks

Are you getting good OTA signal strengths for both tuners?

    :)

Below thread is filled with HR24/AM21 issues:
    http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=178521

I have frequent cases of failure to record programs. They show in the "list"; but when I go to them the screen is blank and I immediately get the screen asking if I want to "delete this".

It's a great feeling to get a new receiver and immediately have issues. Some of this stuff makes me question DTV's QA process. I know you can't catch everything or test every situation, but it seems like you could come closer than this.

Good question. Yes, the signal strength looks good and is consistent across both tuners on all the OTA stations.

And it does work perfectly with both tuners on OTA when I unplug the AM21 from the HR24 and plug it into an HR22 sitting beneath it.

It seems to have problems only on the HR24 and only if both tuners are on OTA channels.

    Thanks

FWIW this is an HR24-100 on 0x3E4.

I'm assuming that's a national release. The installer forced a software download Monday afternoon.

It's def an issue with HR24's and AM21's. Many of us had previous models working fine in the same setup. Best thing to do now is to only use the AM21 for LIVE viewing.

IIRC, you've been vocal about issues you're seeing with the HR24 and AM21. I hope you're not capitulating to the problem :).

I rarely watch live TV and I'm unwilling to settle for the noticeably worse picture of satellite locals compared to OTA, so I'm really hoping that DTV is paying attention and can solve this with a software update.

I'm not. When I first started my complaining, people were a little skeptical, but now that more units are out there, more people have complained. Should be enough history now for D* to know to look into it, we just have to wait. I do not expect a fix for it for 3-6 months.

Still had a ticket open with case management. I called about this and they say they're sending it up to engineering and will follow up on it.

What are the big problems you are seeing? Did you mention blank recordings? If I can get a live, interested person in engineering to actually look into this I'd like to tell them about what you're seeing also.

What model HR24 do you have (100 or 500)? Would you be willing to work with them if they're willing to contact you. I'm presuming a lot here :)

    HR24-500

Random OTA recordings are blank, while NO sat recordings are blank. AM21 setup worked flawlessly with HR22 for 5 months. Trickplay on OTA recordings is also a tad buggy, with audio dropouts and xtra jumps forward or backward. None of which I see on Sat recordings.

Wow, I'm really second guessing my plans to buy an HR24 to replace my slow HR21 before the new TV season in September. We don't have HD LIL here yet so I do a LOT of OTA recordings with my AM21. Maybe I'll be keeping that slow HR21 afterall.

Yeah, I really like the speed of the HR24 but I'll take reliability over speed. I certainly wouldn't get rid of your HR21 yet if it is working well. You could always get an HR24 and try your luck.

I have an HR24-500 on the way and am keeping my fingers crossed that it won't have the same OTA problem I'm seeing with the HR24-100.

AM21 and HR24 recordings are not bug free when playing back. Even when the look very good Live.

Documented problems with playback of OTA on both HR24-500's and 100 series.
Hopefully Directv will release firmware to entire population soon to correct this.

Don't go nuts rebooting and rescanning, alot of folks including me have the issues.

Yeah, dont waster your time rescanning and rebooting. Also, its still worth the upgrade, I love the HR24.

Can I infer that there is firmware in the works/being tested to correct the OTA issues with the HR24?

I have two HR24's being shipped to me from SolidSignal today and I'd like to know whether to open and activate them or just send them back when they arrive.

Lack of reliable OTA support is pretty close to a deal-breaker for me. I can be patient if DTV is really aware of and paying attention to the issue. If not, I'd rather have older, slower boxes that work well with OTA.

    Thanks

Didn't mean to infer anything as I don't know. Hoping and wishing since the HR24s are great except for the OTA recording/playback bug. Seems like the 100 and 500 series all have it.
