"University of Georgia President Michael Adams told Vince Dooley on Thursday morning that he won't give him another contract and expects the longtime Bulldogs athletics director to retire in June 2004."

Dooley has been associated with UGA since becoming football coach in 1964. He became athletics director in 1979. The news has shocked many long-time Georgia fans. Dooley, the school's most recognizable and beloved figure, coached the Bulldogs football team from 1964 to 1988, winning six SEC titles and the 1980 national championship. It was reported that Dooley had sought a 3-year extension of his contract as AD. UGA Pesident Adams apparently had other plans.

IMO, this is an inglorious way to bring to an end an illustrious coaching career, akin to the old pink slip in the pay envelope.

From what I've read concerning the Harrick basketball scandal, it is Adams who should be shown the door.
