No. Furthermore, the USB port right now is not used for anything. Your best bet for large capacity storage is to attach an eSATA drive.

    RECORDING DEFAULTS

A Friend just received his 700 and he cannot find the "rec. defaults" in the To Do list. I have a 100 & 700 and it shows up on both. Any suggestions?

Your friend may have an older version of the software. To find recording defaults on the older software, go to the To Do list, select any program. Press INFO. While the program description is visible, press MENU. Scroll down to Recording Defaults and use the menu to set up the preferences.

Thanks. Will rebooting force a software upgrade?

No. You would only get the same national release.

You can participate in the CE test program. That is where we get the latest software. Form the FAQ:

Can I help test new beta software updates?
The CE: Rules, FAQs, and Tips on participatingNotify Me of New ReleasesCutting Edge Forum

Again, we are in an in-between state right now. We all thought that buy now the new features would be out to the national release. They want to get everything perfect first. Soon.

In the mean-time here is the old version of the Tips & Tricks that matches up with the current National Version (0x1BE).

The latest Tips and Tricks is based on 0x1EA.

Now that 0x1EA is National on all platforms...

What should we add, change, or remove?

Well this is talked for the HR20, not 21. So that would be a nice addition.

Yes, but what I mean is all the talk in these forums it says HR20. So from that it's not available for the HR21 or it doesn't have anything to do with HR21 since it is written as HR20 tips and tricks. We don't know if it is the same for HR21 because it says HR20.

That is what I am referring to.

I went to the notify me link you posted, but there's no way to subscribe to it to be notified of CE releases.

Three manufacturers build the four different HR20's and HR21's currently released to the public. This way there is competition to keep vendor pricing down and multiple sources to keep units in the supply chain.

It takes a while as new models are released to get the software caught up. Right now the beta test software for all of the models is at 0x1FA.

DIRECTV averages a new beta release EVERY week on Friday nights.

The link I gave you does work:

I will add those notes to my post above.

buggs1a, looking at your other posts, are you sure testing new beta software is for you?

It won't hurt my system since it's only TV, not like life or death and I don't care if things get lost. I have an R15 that works ok that has a couple season passes on it. It's still recording them and won't stop because in no way is DTV DVr's HR21 reliable in my opinion like Tivo is totally reliable. So the R15 records the season passes as like a backup as it's at least more reliable then the HR21.

Looking at my other posts? What do you mean? The link you gave for the other posts also is non existent. The only postings I've made have to do mostly with how crummy the HR21 is and me trying the CE might work out better. Plus I am extremely critical and demanding when it comes to me being serviced and supported by companies. I expect and demand the best, as in perfection since companies are the ones getting my money. So trying the CE and saying stuff about it can help I think.

I have the HR21 and for some reason a lot of the tips I have been reading do not work on my remote control. Is the problem with the remote or the DVR receiver? The remote model is: RC64R.

    Thanks...

    buggs1a,

By their nature, CE test releases may cause added lockups and missed recordings.

If DIRECTV was sure that a new release had the perfection you demand, they would not be testing it. They would release it nationally.

As you test a CE, you are testing a rough draft. It is not ready for the criticism of an extremely demanding person.

That is why I am saying are you sure testing new beta software is for you?

I bet we see the new national release before the next big season starts.
