Is it possible to program a universal remote to operate a Genie Mini C41 I can't seem to get it to work... I'm currently using a RC71? I'm thinking the C41 might need to be in IR mode but I'm not sure it is or for sure how to get it there.

By universal remote, you men na RC6x? or perhaps a 3rd party universal remote? But the C41 is ALWAYS on IR (or always takes IR commands) even when is on RF mode.

I meant a 3rd party universal remote I have a URC MX-600 & MX-350. I didn't realize the C41 always takes IR commands so my MX-600 & MX-350 should both work. Guess I'll keep trying codes. I also have a RC6x remote that won't control the C41 or I would learn from it.

Any of the DIRECTV codes for the particular remote should work at least partially. The only issue would be if there were multiple DIRECTV receivers within line of sight of the remote.

What is the full RC number for the remote you have? It may be in RF ,mode. Reset the RC remote to factory specs, i.e. IR control, by pressing and holding the mute and select buttons untill the green light on the remote flashes twice, then enter 9-8-1. That will clear the remote and automatically put it in IR mode programmed to control DirecTV receivers.

It's a RC 65RX. After I enter the 981 it blinks green 4 times and then blinks green twice each time I try out a command on the remote like to change channels. Is this normal because it still won't control the C41?

There are no other receivers within line of sight as the C41 is in a bedroom.

Does not sound like normal operation. The four flasshes when clearing are correct. Try clearing again. When you press the number 1 key and hold it, is the green light steady?

Does your remote for your Genie work the Genie ?
If yes, use it to check to see if the C41 is in RF mode and change it to IR mode.
Then try to set up the RC65X.

You can't as the IR/RF settings are greyed out. The C41 is ALWAYS on IR

That pairs compatible equipment, meaning an RC7x to an HR44, C41 as an example.

I'm having difficulty understanding what you're saying and suspect that others would as well.

Does the C41 operate in RF mode and IR mode simultaneously or not?

You speak of pairing but you seem to be talking about a three-way. I was under the impression that the remote communicated with the Genie Mini and not directly with the host Genie on behalf of the Genie Mini.

Of course, because you are a Dish subscriber. Those with DIRECTV® service will understand

"Always on" is kind of an exclusionary term as applied to remote controls. It is a term that most associate with broadband Internet.

Saying that both modes (IR and RF4CE) are always active avoids any uncertainty.

If all it took was a DIRECTV subscription, this thread would not have existed.
