It's been a long time... our HR34 has become unstable, requiring multiple RBRs in a week. Also, sometime recently, the AM21 has started getting 771 errors, and now fails completely. The OTA signal from the antenna directly into the TV is fine. So, time to call in the upgrade that we're due on our service plan; is the HR54 what we'd likely get? I read here that the LCC isn't great, but the AM21 isn't doing anything for us right now, so anything is better.
Our main use case for the AM21 is to get local networks from the Hartford DMA; we live in Western CT and are in the NYC DMA, which gets us the "wrong" local news, weather, and political coverage.

The HR54 has a 1 TB Hard Drive. It can be connected to a TV. It works with receivers, DVRs and clients. For 4K service it will need a C61K-700 client. The HR54 can be connected to more than one C61K-700 but only works with one 4K stream at once. The HS17 has a 2 TB Hard Drive. It is a headless server and cannot be connected to a TV. It only works with clients. For 4K service it will need a C61K-700 client. The HS17 can be connected to more than one C61K-700 but only works with two 4K streams at once.

We're don't have any 4K devices yet, so the one stream limitation on the HR54 wouldn't be a problem. I'm assuming it would work with our older Genie clients (2), so it should just be a direct swap.

What model clients do you have? If they are C41 or higher, then getting the HR44, HR54, or HS17 will work for you (and any of them will be a major upgrade from the HR34). If there is a possibility of 4K in the future, then get the HR54 or HS17. If you have C31 clients, then you need to replace those also.

One more thing - you may not be able to get an LCC. To qualify for one, one of your local OTA channels needs to be in a dispute with D*.

And worth noting, the AM21 won't work with the HS17, and might (or might not) work with the HR44 or HR54. The LCC is what you need for the HS17, but as noted, you might not be able to get one.

I don't believe the LCC will work with the HS17 (neither will the AM21).

It does work with the HR44 & HR54 (well, it's supposed to anyway - some folks have issues with it).

The LCC and the AM21 will NOT work with the HS17. They do work with the HR44 and the HR54.

Well, I got 2 LCC'S....one for my Genie 2 and 1 for my HR22-100....call the retention department .... could be because I have over 20 years with DIRECTV but do not have local outages here in Atlanta...they seem to have for anywhere now....call them..

My friend who works at the local call center is saying for the time being the LCCs are only being ordered for markets where D* never provided locals. This started shortly after the Nexstar dispute ended. So the Northwest Broadcasting, May 30th and June 10th disputes that are still active can't get a LCC right now even though they were previously eligible.

Your Genie 2? Have you installed it on your Genie 2 yet? Didn't think it worked on that.

It doesn't work on the HR22 either. Not sure why they sent him two LCCs he can't use...

Since you don't have any 4K TV's, the easiest thing to do would be to call in and tell them your HR34 is dead and won't power on. If you have the protection plan, they'll ship you an HR44 or HR54 for free (most likely it will be a 44). If you don't have the PP, it will be $20 to ship. The benefit of this approach is that you won't be under a new two year commitment for the replacement genie and you won't burn your 4K upgrade with DTV. Down the road, you can do the upgrade dance if you decide to get a 4K TV.

Yes, used my outside antenna that had been hooked up to my old AM21 instead of the antenna that came with the LCC kit on my Genie 2. Also, on my HR22, used the LCC antenna...got all my Atlanta locals plus MYTV on it, not as many as on the Genie. Used antenna hook up on both, NOT THE USB PORTS...both work great..

What is the actual model number of your 'Genie 2'? (The actual 'Genie 2' is an HS17, and it does not have an antenna input.)

I just chatted with at&t support and asked if I could get a LCC for my HR44 since one of my locals is owned by sinclair and maybe going away and the rep placed an order for me.

Keep an eye on that order. They usually don't give them away for a 'maybe' situation.

If you do get one, perhaps you qualify for another reason? Another dispute in your area you are unaware of?
