    My equipment:
    HR44-700
    C41-500 x2
    HR21-100
    HR22-100 x2
    HR24-100 x3

    Currently one 4K capable TV.

Currently, my HR44 genie is connected to my 4K TV. DirecTV told me they could upgrade me to 4K at no cost. My understanding is that I would need to get a HR54 and a 4K mini. HR54 would need to go on a different TV and the mini would have to feed the 4K TV. They asked me what receiver I would like replace with the new mini. The C41’s I have now are both wall mounted and I don’t want to put the HR54 on one of those TVs. So which DVR should I replace HR21 or HR22 or does it really matter. Or should I just pay the extra $6/month and not lose 2 tuners by giving up a DVR? That probably doesn’t make sense, because I probably don’t need all 17 tuners anyway! . Just tough to give them up....
Also, it it good to upgrade from the HR44 to the HR54? Is there enough 4K out there? Are there other benefits?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

First, make sure they aren't upgrading you to the HS17. It only works with clients so you would have to give up your other dvrs. It can do 2 4k streams whereas the HR54 only does one. There isn't that much 4k programming at this time. How much you want is up to you.

You will need either a HR54 or HS17 to replace your HR44-700. Both the HR54 and HS17 require a C61K-700 for 4K service. The HR54 has a 1 TB Hard Drive. It can be connected to a TV and will work with receivers, DVRs and clients. It can be connected to more than one C61K-700 but only works with one 4K stream at once. The HR54 will work with all of your current equipment. The HS17 has a 2 TB Hard Drive. It is a headless server and cannot be connected to a TV. It only works with clients. It can be connected to more than one C61K-700 but only works with two 4K streams at once. It will not work with your HR21, HR22 and HR24. They will have to be replaced with clients. The tech will also replace your LNB with a Reverse Band LNB when you upgrade to 4K service.

You can have the hR54 Connected to the same TV as a C61K - You will only need to change TV inputs to access the c61K -Example Record a Show in 4K on the HR54 --To watch it --Change tv input to C61K press list and play - OR want to watch 4k chnage to C61K and tune to channel 104.

The HR54 Does NOT out put 4K over HDMI -- the C61K HDMI -DOES output in 4K

$7 per month. And it could always go up. I'd swap out your oldest DVR for the 54 and then the 61K on your 4K TV.

We have 3 4K TVs. Personally, I haven't seen enough programming on DIRECTV to make it worth the upgrade.
