I have cut the cord and I still own this THR-22. I would like to purchase a HD antenna and run it through this. Just set up manual recordings like the original Tivos did.

    Is this possible?

disconnect sat coax before deactivation your account, then boot it to see if it allow you tune to OTA channels

I believe the THR22 requires AM21 module to tune OTA. No idea if it would work w/o the TiVo subscription, but I've heard that that tuner module functions much better with the THR22 than other DirecTV DVRs

(I think that the HR10-250 with built-in OTA supposedly still functions partially as an OTA receiver w/o the subscription, but I've never tried it.)

Without an active subscription the THR22 becomes a paper wight.

And yes, the THR22 requires an AM-21 to receive OTA. The HR10 can be used as an OTA receiver with buffer but no recording without a sub, but as peds48 says, no sub makes a THR22 useless.

I'm still running some of my old HR10-250's for OTA without a sub......and they still scan all the channels available in my area as opposed to the DirecTV branded DVR and AM2x's.

Yes, the HR10-250 does that. The THR22 does not.

My THR22 still scans all the channels with an AM2x as opposed to my DirecTV HR2x series IRD's.

Scans? Really? I was under the impression that using the AM-21 you were limited to the channels in the DirecTV guide. I have an AM21 but no longer have an antenna so I don't use it, and never had it connected to the THR22.

If you really like the Tivo user interface and need just OTA coverage, the Tivo OTA Roamio is hard to beat. I just got two of them on a one day sale for $349 each with lifetime service. These are very modern DVRs with much better tuners than the AM21 or the Dish OTA add-ons. I am very pleased.
