I have read Sports Media Watch and Awful Announcing for quite a long time both post great info regarding sports and on major sports usually post the over night ratings pretty quickly. I think in the Sports Media Watch it mentioned overall #'s for the IRL were higher than the NHL.

Try e-mailing them from the contact us page. Seems to work the best and you don't have to play touch tone menu roulette.

anyone who discounts the 'value of Versus" just can't count the number of pages here.

Versus is a valuable commodity and Directv should treat it and its viewers as such.

and to discount is "value" is only one thing.. looking at Directv with rose colored glasses on.

and basically having the continuing attitude that Directv is never wrong.. which is only lying to ones self..

Someone mentioned that before and a mod responded with the comment below. I haven't figured out who the other 19 posters are yet. ;)

I'd like to have Versus for the BYU-TCU game this weekend. Should be a darn good game.

I worked for an IRL Race Team. We were in negotiations with a potential sponsor for the 2010 IRL season and beyond. Sponsorship is hard to get in this economy.

Of course, the principle owner of the potential sponsor has D*. When he went to watch the 2009 Season Finale Race from Homestead, FL it was only on VERSUS, all he saw was the banner message saying D* decided to drop VERSUS. So, of course, the sponsor decided to drop any consideration for our team.

So now, D* has cost the race team a lot of money, plus put most team members on the unemployment rolls!!! Thanks a bunch D* for screwing this up. I am sure the starving children of the out of work team members will definitely think highly of your decision to drop it.

I am sure D*’s millionaire owners don’t give a crap about these starving children when they are drinking champagne and eating steak at their mansions.

At least D* should have asked their customers what they felt before they dropped the channel.

You couldn't find another sponsor? You're team put all their eggs in 1 basket hoping that guy with Directv would sponsor you? No one told him the race was on Versus & Vs isn't on Directv before hand? Sounds like your wealthy team owner needs to do better in negotiating. BTW, nice touch on the "starving children" touch. I'm sure the wealthy IRL team owners don't care either.

maybe if comcast buys NBC the FCC will make them divest Versus back to DirecTV. They have the power to open up access.

these danged capitalist are so greedy that they want to starve children.

oops, sorry . . . what were you saying?

my point is, business is business and you shouldn't make it personal. i am sorry that it didn't work out for IRL, but you have to realize D* is protecting themselves. if D* gives in to VS, what is next? my guess would be tons of other channels holding out for fee increases, and that will lead to even more package cost increases.

something else to keep in mind, (as a person that lived in a poor country) i find it funny that you talk about starving children in the USofA. hell, this is a country that considers someone poor if and only if they don't have a newish car, cable / sat tv, and $50 sneakers for their kids.

just to respond to one additional point, you do realize D* is a publically traded company . . . so those 'millioniare owners' you refer to are actually common folk (like you and i) that are invested directv stock (by way of pension plans, 401k's, IRA's, etc). i bet you also complain about how your stocks are tanking, the stock market blah blah blah. you do realize the two things are connected, right?

lets get back on target. i hope this gets settled soon and VS gets their teeth kicked in. i am tired of the price increases. do i enjoy some of the programming on VS? yep. do i think their programming justifies a price increase in a bad economy? nope. D* should tell them, "take it or leave it"

aside from a very small number of viewers, there really isn't a downside to letting VS go. but, if they give in to their demands, the downside is huge. you have to believe that other content providers are watching this very carefully.

This makes no sense. I verified about 10 pages back that versushd is already on everybody's highest tier, including directv. How is choice extra not the highest tier. There is nowhere else to move it. The ratings for hockey are generally low, especially during the baseball playoffs. Does anybody really care what ratings their favorite shows get? I don't. If directv shuts off the "low" rated channels you watch are you going to defend that? If they turn off high rated channels to make a killing or screw some cable company are you going to defend them? I'm not.

It's not directv who gets hurt here, it's the subscribers. We need to let them know we will not put up with this business practice. Versus is claiming to have now lowered their renewal rates to last years levels as stated by 2 different news sources. Directv is holding out to get all those regional sports channels back to grow subscribers much more than versus would ever affect it. I see this channel being gone for several months. I hope they don't find a reason to turn off any more low rated channels that I like.

Wasn't those ratings reported from a VS press release ? If it was from a VS press release , just how truthful have the other VS press releases been ?
