VS thinks that it is irreplaceable and for some customers it might be. The major thing is most people will knee jerk at the beginning and just leave. This works against VS as once the damage is done there's even less reasons, subscribers who want it, to get the channel back. This is why Dish took so long to get theirs back. The damage was done so why agree to something you don't have to as quickly.

Neither company really wants this but both think they're justified and Comcast has the oppertunity to gain more by keeping DirecTV from passing them in subscribers.

Any word if Directv is using VS negotiations to try and get HD and SD feeds of Comcast sports nets that they currently don't offer to Directv? If so, tip of the hat to Directv. Take em down!

I would think not nor would I want them to. Adding more channels in this agreement would inflate the value of VS.

Directv I believe is the first affected by this. I would imagine over next several years that almost everyone elses will come up too.

A read an article from a paper in the midwest posted last night and someone from the IRL was quoted as saying Versus isn't concerned with the Directv negotiations. I would take the statment to mean that they could care less if they get a deal. Which means, I don't think a deal will get done unless Directv complies with Comcasts demands for the channel. Everything points to the contract talks being un-productive and so disjointed that I would expcet them to completely fall apart before much longer. The changes in guide, to the HD station, and all the statments that they have posted on the internet and on TV about it point to no contract happening. Directv is using info from the Sportsman channel for 603 SD starting Tuesday morning. What are they hoping that no one notices the change. I believe based on what they feel the ratings are, they are hoping for exactly that. Which is probably why these talks are going nowhere. No matter what venue it is, Directv has basically stopped talking about it excapt to keep repeating the bottom line.

Interesting read, thanks for the link. I tend to agree with that writer that a deal will get done soon.

OT: "Rat Patrol" I assume that you're a big fan of that show. I have those on DVD as well :)

Nice Catch, it sounds like Directv has given up on trying to get a deal right now with Versus without pressure on Comcast to lower their demands. Which is to bad.

Agreed. Ever since ESPN stopped carrying the NHL, I barely watch any ESPN. I'll watch NFL football on there, and Jim Rome is Burning, and thats about it. 90% of their programming has turned to junk, and I can get all of their "news" information online (thru them or thru other resources).

I wouldn't say that. They're just using all the tools at their disposal and, probably, attempting to win the propaganda campaign being waged by both sides. The greatest pressure is going to be when their channel loses a third of it's potential viewership and the content providers begin complaining.

On the "up side," we're only a few days away from ESPN commentators not looking like total morons when they say they can't find Versus on their dial.

Hopefully this dispute will eventually get Comcast Sports Northwest on DirecTV as well. I haven't followed the Blazers for over 2 years now.

If Versus does go dark, be sure to contact Dana White, part owner and president of Zuffa, which owns both the UFC and WEC, letting him know that you're having trouble finding the WEC fights on DirecTV:

WEC Productions, LLC, 2960 West Sahara Avenue, Suite 100, Las Vegas, NV 89102 (702) 221-4780
Zuffa, LLC 2960 West Sahara Avenue, Suite 100, Las Vegas, NV 89102 (702) 221-4780

The guy is all about marketing and expanding the MMA viewer base, so I'm sure he, too, will be thrilled.

Unless we get an 11th hour agreement, it doesn't look good.

I fully expect this channel to get pulled.. I fully expect VS to slowly loose all its national contracts over the next few years, and disappear.. Maybe Mark Cuban can start the HDNet Sports channel he wanted to start years ago...

HD only sports channle sounds cool but it better be in the base pack and also have a sd ver for all the sports bars that only have sd boxes.

After the stretch-o-vision IRL show Sat nite, it proves that Versus isn't worth any increase in fees. Lots of problems besides the crappy picture. Started way too late and the announcers were stupid. The racing was fantastic, but being carried on a network nobody knows about, then so late the east coast market has already gone to bed makes me wonder which is going to die sooner: IRL or Versus
