D* - We still want to put VS in the Sports Pack and then we will sign.

C* - No, we need you to put in in your Choice Xtra package.

Does not sound like a lot of compromising going on.

You can bet that Dish and all the cable companies are watching this very carefully. It Directv caves, Comcast will have the leverage to increase rates to everyone. And folks, that means higher rates for us all.

no the reason that this person is saying this, is to intentionally stir up trouble.

because from what I read, he has no dog in this fight.. but he has been there to consistantly try to raise the hackles of the posters here.

Its better to crush everyones hopes now then have to listen to the whining about it for the next year.
    EX: DLB.

Then look, we got it, and everyone rejoiced. Not a whole lot of people were pissed, or saying 'its about time' in a negative way. Everyone was just happy.

I sent D* an email after speaking with a CSR about the lack of the WEC to D* subscribers. I got canned responses both times but I just wanted to be heard. However, the CSR did say that she's heard many similar complaints. She also mentioned that many of those complaints were followed by a willingness to pay more for VS.
With the UFC planning to broadcast on VS as soon as March, hopefully we get something soon.

Yes, he does have a dog in this fight, the same dog I have!

I want DirecTV to fight tooth and nail against every sports related increase that comes up AND isn't part of a separate sports package.

I am tired of paying a huge chunk of my monthly bill to support sports. I am a movie fan not a sports fan. If I want massive movie availability, I have to purchase the Premium Channel Movie Package.

Sports need to be the same way. It grinds me no end to know that over $4 of my monthly bill goes for just ESPN, none of whose channels I have ever watched.

Are there other channels I don't watch? Sure but they cost a minute fraction of what just ESPN costs.

Take ALL sports other than those carried by the big 4 networks, put them in a package and let sports fans pay for them.

    DirecTV... Keep fighting!

yup, and I used to watch versus every now and then for IRL races. I think it should be part of sports pack.
and to the person who says I am only trying to stir up trouble, wrong.
I believe it will never come back and I had the guts to say so.
I bet many of you feel that way but are too politically correct to say so.

See the funny thing is, I want DirecTV to take all the channels you watch and I don't, put them in a separate package, and let people like you pay for them. I'm sick of supporting your viewing habits too! ;)

They should raise the prices of all the movie channels too, so they have enough money to subsidize what really pays the bills for DirecTV...sports.

I'm sick of movies making my sports packages more expensive!!!

You realize that most the sports programing is what is actually subsidizing all the little channels, right?

That really funny, considering you will be seeing lots of ads from fox telling everyone to go to Directv instead of Time Warner since TW won;t have any of the fox channels except NEWS starting at midnight tonight...

SO it will be, which you want, 4 or 5 Fox networks, including your local affiliate with programs like 24, house, and bones, Or one national sports channel that doesn;t show but a couple games a year for ONE of your local teams...

Wonder who is gonna win that one...

Frankly, this is all getting ridiculous....

Programmers should not be allowed to be owned by distributors, or vice versa...

And distributors shouldn't be making as high a margin and offering such crappy transmissions of their product (I am talking about most cable companies out there still using old poor equipment and charging the same rates as thought they where suppling people with hi quality transmissions) I don;t think any cable company is actually loosing money or needed banckrupcity if they wheren't being ripped off by their ceo's and dabbling in things they have no business dabbling in, like programing, in the first place.

That's why I'm constantly contacting them to raise the prices of movie and niche channels, and lower the price of the sports packages!

DirecTV does their part by giving me the new subscriber offer for the NFL package, meaning I actually SAVE $50 per month during football season, AND I get to watch all the games! When I called to complain about them not carrying Versus, they also credited me the entire $160 I paid for NHL Center Ice.

I'm sure they're just going to make that back off those movie people...;)

I think Dish carries Versus...but they pulled the free preview they had running, so now customers have to subscribe to the sports pack to get it I believe...

    :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

All the channels I like are ALREADY in a package, unfortunately the package also contains sports.

Sports programming doesn't subsidize anything, though it certainly contributes to the DirecTV revenue stream.

Movie channels, HBO, Showtime, Starz etc. are sold to DirecTV on a per subscriber TO THE PACKAGE basis. DirecTV marks it up and sells it to the subscribers who pay the price.

I don't want DirecTV to stop carrying sports, I just want them to differentiate between "basic" and "premium" sports.

Well larry that would be lovely but the fact is to watch all the good sports in hd I have to pay for choice for espn and several other good channels, choice extra for nbatv, nhlhd, speedhd, and the sports pack for cbschd and several other regional college football channels. I also buy the premier just for the boxing on hbo and the strikeforce fights on showtime. The nfl sunday ticket etc. isn't exactly cheap either. How am I getting a better deal than you? Fine. Put versushd in the sports pack. It is still the weakest and lowest rated package that directv offers. And I still have to pay the same. My bill isn't lowered. At least offer it somewhere. The more fox and time-warner and comcast and the sat people all fight over channel prices and availability the better because congress won't get involved unless lots of people complain to them.

If D* didn't have all those expensive sports channels ( ESPN ,RSN,NFLST ) I doubt you would see much HD because those sports channels are the reason D* has so many subs to launch those sats in the sky.

If there wasn't a big market for those sports channels , why isn't there a sat or cable system with no sports ?

There are many cable systems that don't have much more than a subset of the ESPN family of channels and maybe the regional sports channel. My local Comcast offers almost twice as many linear movie channels as they do linear sports channels. My Charter account is a little more movie heavy than that. In both cases, they offer Versus.

Have you noticed how few sports PPVs there are and that most of those are fights of some sort?

Sort of off topic, but do we know if Comcrap had to pull down FSN Pittsburgh and a few other FSN feeds (that Liberty Media owns) who's carriage agreements with Comcrap were set to expire at midnight?

We all know that D* and MSG came to an agreement before their deadline, but I have heard nothing about Comcrap and Liberty. I ask this before I think Liberty Media was using this issue (since Liberty Media owns D*) as leverage to try to get Versus back on D* and possibly even CSN Philly. Any one know what happened?
