After reading the article I had to go back and look at the sports section of the Dallas Morning news. I didn't even notice it when I read it this morning and its a half page ad on the lat page. Guess I read the newspaper like I watch shows on my DVRs, skip the ads.

I am a Red Wing fan and for years we watched them for FREE on Ch 50 now the only way to see a game on TV is to pay so if do not see a eight games this year fine. Versus is not that big of a loss. If we dont start to say no then the price will only go higher.

I'm hoping, since (I think) the 'Horns have a sizeable nat'l fanbase, this might elevate the DTV/Comcast issue or at least generate additional publicity about it. Since I'm a 'Horns fan and don't like the possibility of mssing this game, it's not something I'm happy about but just maybe something will happen as a result of it.

As for no NHL games, I'll miss that big-time but if, worse-case, this thing drags on into the start of the season, maybe we'll see a settlement in time for the Cup playoffs.

So, I guess the true NFL fans wouldn't mind if they dropped coverage of the Super Bowl but picked up all the exhibition games?

I like Universal Sports and their cycling coverage, but I would never trade it for the coverage Versus does of cycling...which is also more than just the TdF. As for just being a fan because Lance is in the race...I hope you're not talking about me...because you couldn't be more wrong. I've been following cycling long before Lance got on a mountain bike.

I'd love if D* can find a away after this debacle with Versus to keep Universal Sports. Especially with the Winter Olympics coming in February.

When these negotiations first started to break down, I also thought the real pressure on Comcast would come from sport leagues who were upset with losing DirecTV's audience. However if one of the major stumbling blocks to a deal is that DirecTV wants to move the channel from Choice Extra to the Sports Pack (which means a negotiated loss in potential viewers), companies like the NHL might be on Comcast's side of this debate, though it probably depends on how long negotiations are dragged out.

Unfortunately I think that the IRL and even the NHL have little stroke since each of those organizations are not in the best of health. The NHL is still limping after the lost season, even 5 years later and the IRL is still way behind Nascar. I am and NHL fan, I am a Blues season ticket holder, but the NHL is not a healthy league and may be looking at labour trouble in the very near future.

do they want to move there or was it like IF you comcast want to make us pay that much then we will put it in the sports pack then they come out and say this?

does comcast want it in choice?

Just remember, Universal Sports has its place, but it is on SD.

    VERSUS has a HD channel.

I am not opposed to D* adding US, we just have to remember that it is only an SD channel.

As far as either question goes, I haven't seen either supposition stated anywhere as part of the negotiations, though both are possibilities. What we do seem to know is that Comcast wants a price increase and DirecTV want to put the channel in the Sports Pack. Neither side have seemed to deny either claim.

When talking about who is "right" or "wrong" in this situation, I would rather stick as close as I can to what I "know" to be the facts and not make suppositions about what the further demands of either company might be, especially since many of the suppositions tend to be biased against one company or the other.

For those who point to a particular game as "so important" that it'll put pressure on to settle, I remember when Lin broadcasting went to war with Time Warner cable in Western NY and people started missing all of the Buffalo Bills games.

People couldn't believe it would go past the first game, but it kept going & going & going.......

Your missing the point. I am refering to the fact that NO games from TSN or Sportsnet are in HD on NHLCI. From my original statement If I had a choice I would give up 52 exclusive Versus games in exchange for knowing we get Canadian feed games on NHLCI in HD. Obviously if Versus has exclusive rights the games (in the US) it would not be carried on NHLCI from an alternate feed. Simply said I would rather see Toronto vs Calgary on TSN HD then any game Versus could provide.

Agreed. I'd probably watch US more than VS. since it seems to cover what I'm interested in more that VS. but there's a lot to be said about HD (as far as I'm concerned, which is the only reason I'm with *D).

It's sad that I missed the fact the Versus was gone. What's even more sad is that I missed it because, outside of cycling and a few WEC shows... Versus doesn't show anything I want to see, and I simply haven't changed the channel over there since the Tour ended. I would LOVE for D* to keep Universal, upgrade them to HD, then help them acquire rights to air more bicycle racing/ triathlon/ REAL sports coverage! There's only so much hunting and fishing coverage a man can stand.

I believe Florida St-BYU on 9/19 is also a Versus game which will have a solid national interest. They're going to have plenty of good college football games this fall.
