You have to factor the RSNs into that equation, which are available to all viewers within its region (whether they have the sports pack or not).

Don't tell that to the NHL, college football, IRL, Tour de France, and rodeo fans.

Why? Just because the channel shows sports doesn't mean that it's 100% sports. Versus is a sports channel, sure, but not 100%.

    Texas/Wyoming on 9/12
    BYU/Florida State on 9/19
    Colorado State/TCU on 10/17
    TCU/BYU on 10/24

I'm a big fan of the MWC. TCU has 4 of their games broadcast on Versus this year, and their TV coverage just got yanked the week before the season started.

Like I said in another post,if you can't watch the game on tv. The best thing you can do is go to your local sports bar,or go to justin.tv and hope someone is streaming it.

but sports bars usually have DirecTV, the (former) sports leader.

Former? Really? Who has more sports? Who has NFLST? Who has MLBEI in HD?

Without the NHL playoffs they're no longer the sports leader. NFLST is 300 bucks, I'm guessing 75% of their customers DON'T have it. Same as MLBEI, which everyone but E* has.

It is a long time until the NHL playoffs start.

If this still has not been settled by then pay for a month or three of comcast.

Many RSNs could be handled on spotbeams if not for the SPORTS PACK and special season packages. Remember that DIRECTV is still only using around half its long-advertised spotbeam capacity.

    CommieCrap can suck it!!
The only thing I watch on VersusHD is Indycar & it's not likely this will be resolved before the end of the Indycar season.

I expect if CommieCrap holds out they will violate a ratings clause in many contracts & I will be watching my Indycar races on ESPNHD next season!!

I love hockey, but I would care more if the PQ and AQ for the Versus hockey coverage didn't suck. The man who mixes the sound for the NBC games is a member over at AVS and he is excellent.

And DirecTV could add 20 new HD channels today if they took down 20 that they have currently. What's the point of saying this?

To make one of the clear advantages that D* has over other providers--carrying all the sport packages--sound like a negative. There's nothing wrong with preferring one specific use of bandwidth over another. (For example, E* not carrying all the sports packages allows them to carry a more robust selection of premium movie channels than D*.) In fact, the poster you responded to sounded like he would be much happier with Dish Network than DirecTV. Oh, wait...

What was wrong with Versus' PQ and AQ this past year? looked as good as anything on NBC IMO.

Overall I understand Directv's POV here. As much as I love college football and the Stanley Cup playoffs Versus is pretty barren otherwise -- even when they have niche events like the Tour De France or the America's Cup, etc., those are annual (or semi-annual) in nature -- and Comcast making massive demands for the programming they offer on it is ridiculous.

Still, it will be unbelievably ironic if this drags on for months and DirecTV doesn't offer the STANLEY CUP playoffs while having an NHL Center Ice package!

Hockey .. the big thing will be the playoffs which is still a few months away, but yeah some of the games are close. Tour de France is still 10 months out, so no need to worry about that one just yet.

Yes, it would be ironic, but Comcast will have lost out as well as no doubt by then Ad revenue would be seriously drying up (or at least being much less that it already is).

I'm sure they will come to an agreement at some point, but I really think Versus needs DIRECTV a lot more than DIRECTV needs Versus. No way NHL renews their contract (down the road some time) with Versus without DIRECTV, IMHO.

In the big picture, it seems the previous contract already weighted Versus higher than they they deserved. It's unlikely that DIRECTV was trying to lower the payments (although I don't really know), but it is clear raising them a lot doesn't make sense at all.
