    1. The Versus contract is not negotiated annually.
    2. DirecTV also raised it's rates in that same economic climate
    3. DirecTV with its parent company also owns quite a few channels. Time Warner also does.
    4. I would favor ala carte pricing on all of the channels, I'd be happy to drop the ESPN channels and pay for Versus. The value of each channel is in the eye of it's viewers. The distributors like DirecTV say that would cost us more...we all know they're always looking out for our best interests.

Agreed, but this is now, not last year, not two years ago. The Consumer Price Index dropped 1.5% this past year. That's the way the ball bounced for Versus on this one. Layoffs, foreclosures, belt tightening, etc. It doesn't matter what happened last year. This is right here, right now. Last year is irrelevant. My house was worth almost twice as much two years ago, so what? NOW is what matters.

Yep, but I didn't get a 20% increase from Directv. If they pulled that on customers most would walk. Why does Comcast think they can do that with us?
I understand that, but I think Comcast plays this hand greater than anyone. Here in Oregon, for example, we cannot get Comcast SportsNet Northwest because Comcast plays hardball and asks for a ridiculous price. (Direct doesn't Dish doesn't carry it, Charter cable doesn't carry it, and many more don't carry it.) This saga has been going on three years. In order to be a Comcast executive I swear you have to take an oath to screw everyone.

True, Directv says Versus ranks 60 something out of 70 something in viewership amongst its channels. Seriously, Versus has a few college football games and then, to me, a host of absolute junk. The other non-ESPN sports channels seem to always have more than Versus. Cagefighting? Perhaps we could put Comcast CEO Jamie Davis in there and see him. I would pay for that.

As someone with the old Total Choice package who watched Versus regularly for College Football and NHL playoffs, I have no problem with DirecTV wanting to move the channel to the SportsPack. In fact, I think this is the best solution as I am happy to pay extra for all the sports channels during the Football, basketball, hockey seasons, just as I am willing to pay extra for the HD extra pack and HBO.

My only beef is that ALL the sports channels aren't included in the sports pack (like Tennis and NHL). DirecTV has essentially made it impossible for me to get the Tennis Channel without dropping my grandfathered Total Choice package for good (which I love otherwise).

How much extra is the new choice extra compared to your old grandfathered package? You're willing to pay more for the sports pack but not choice xtra?

Absolutely! Choice Xtra is around $8 more per mo, where as the the Sports Pack is only like $10 (because I have other premiums) and every year I sign up for it (during college football season) they give me $5 off per month, cutting the price in half. Not only that, but I get all the RSNs I want for college football, as well as NBAHD and few others.

The biggest problem is that if I ever move out of the Total Choice package, I can never go back. So moving to Choice Xtra would cost me $96 a year, where as the 6 mos of Sports Pack I use only cost me $30 a year, and I get a lot more channels I want. I LOVE tennis, and would happily pay a premium to get the Tennis channel, but it's just not worth $96/year with no ability to downgrade back to the Total Choice package that has every base channel I want (except TennisHD).

    Make sense?

Folks, please. I know that some of you are not happy about this situation, I get that. However, let's stay away from huge fonts. There is no need for it. Thank You.

People here keep posting it was available to 18 million viewers...that would mean it was on every DirecTV package. I know it wasn't on Family. If it was on the Choice package moving it up to Choice XTra would put it on the same type of tier as Dish has it on.

I'll just listen to it on Seminoles.com.

I think it will be a very competitive game that will go down to the wire like when we played Miami. That Miami quarterback is outstanding and when he is a Junior he will probably win the Heisman. He is so accurate.

Yeah, your right. We know there are packages that don't have Versus. One post seemed to indicate Versus counted on 14M subs from DIRECTV. And would reduce to 8M under the DIRECTV proposition.

Therein might be part of the DIRECTV complaint. Dish has Versus on a higher tier and DIRECTV is basically trying to do the same.

    Cheers,
    Tom

14M to 8M is that the difference between Choice Xtra and Choice? Do they really have 4 million on intl/family? With the ARPU close to $90 that does seem to indicate just about everyone takes a premium package of some sort.

But isn't E* tier where they have Versus now the same as the one D* had it in?

The E Tier (America's Top 250) equates to DirecTV's Choice XTra (top non-premium tier).

We don't know if DirecTV had Versus in Choice which would be a lower cost tier and because it includes everyone in Choice XTra would have more subscribers.
