-Comments:The most frustrating thing about this is that all I could get when trying to play this DoD was a message that the program couldn't find the server. In order to clear the problem, I had to Menu Reset the DVR. If we are not allowed to play DoD recordings there should be an "elegant" message saying so and a simple return to the menu.

Upon restarting the Playback program I received the "searching for server" message. I will Menu Reset the DVR and try again.

Later: I Menu Reset the DVR and the program on the desktop has found the server.

    -Comments:
This recording has an issue at the same time index, around 2 minutes in when Colbert was complaining about McCain's private "hot dog lunch" with Bush. Video and audio skips around for about 2 seconds and then resumes normally. I have trickplayed back to the same spot and it occurs at this exact time index every single time. I played this same recording directly on the HR20 and the video and audio play through flawlessly at the same time index where I have the hiccup issue on the PC application.

Played American Chopper in full screen, around 5 minutes in the audio completely cut out but video continued normal playback. Audio did not return until I trickplayed to a different time index. I went back to the same point where the audio initially cut out, but I could not reproduce it. Plays back without issue on HR20 at same time index.

    -Comments:
Played back The Daily Show which was recorded earlier tonight. About 2 minutes in the video completely froze on a single frame but audio continued normally. Left it alone to try and recover by itself which it eventually did after a minute or two. Video then froze again and audio kept on going. This occurred several times during playback, each time I noticed that processor usage jumped when it happened. Task manager showed DirecTV.exe using 50% CPU and my Vista sidebar gadget that shows usage for each processor core showed Core1 of my dual core processor pegged at nearly 100% when the video freeze happened. Once it recovered, processor usage dropped back to normal. Using any of the trickplay options (except pause) snaps the application back to normal and video will play correctly for a time, then completely freezes again. Audio playback was not affected at all throughout the entire recording during these video freezes.

At least 2 times in this same playback I also noticed the same random jumping I reported previously. Both video and audio will just randomly skip ahead a few frames, probably about 3 to 5 seconds worth of "skipping", and then both video and audio continued normally. During the "skipping" it's like video frames and snippets of audio are just randomly dropped... like the application is trying to catch up to a time index that it thinks it should be at.

Same exact issue with tonight's recording of The Colbert Report (3/11/08 11:30PM). The playback hiccup even occurred around 2 minutes into it. Another hiccup occurred at 5 minutes in exactly (progress bar went from 4 minutes to 5 minutes at the very second the playback issue happened). Going back to this same time index with the trickplay options yields the same playback result every single time. Seems to be a pattern...

Edit: After seeing this issue so many times, it really seems like only 1 second of disruption, not 2. Occurred again at about 7 1/2 minutes in. I'd check the rest of the time indexes where this happens in this recording, but it's late and it's time for bed.

    -Comments:
Watched Smallville that was recorded earlier in the evening. Normal playback was working fine... tried to trickplay through the commercials with the 30 second skip button. Hit the skip button numerous times but it didn't seem to stack the skips and was only doing one at a time. Because it was doing this I decided to use FFWD instead, then the DirecTV.exe application froze for about a minute. Application screen went completely white. Once it recovered, it threw me back to the playback menu for that episode with an error message displayed "Unknown Error". When using any of the trickplay options it was not showing me any sped up video during the trickplay operations.

Tried to restart the recording, but now I receive an error message "Cannot play DTCP content. AKE Fail."

Edit: Appears that whatever occurred when this playback was going caused the HMC part of the HR20 to crash. HR20 itself is still working. Unable to locate the HMC server with the DirecTV.exe application though.
