    Got the latest SW download.

    1. Even though I do not have a network connection directly into the receiver, I do have a slingbox connected to it, and with the new software I can now see the receiver on Dish Remote Access. Interesting that it can be seen over the internet through the connected slingbox.

    2. Question on a setting. In Enhancements is now a setting for "Enable/Disable Banner in Guide." I do not see a difference in either setting. Anyone know what it actually does? Thanks.

I noticed this release a day or two ago. I tried to find something new and that was something that didn't do anything for me. I expected to see the new fancy menus that the last release put on my 722. And I can't even remember what I wanted fixed on my 612 because I don't regularly use it for playback.

Hope somebody can provide more information about this release.

I turned it off and it removed an advertisement I was seeing on the bottom of the guide.

OK, but what does turning enhancements on or off do? There is no definition I can find of what the enhancements are.

If you click the 'Help' button when you are in the various options screens, it explains how the different choices affect your viewing.

Not sure why its just now being released to the ViP612, but the Enable/Disable Banner in Guide, has been on the 622 and 722 for sometime. Be happy you can turn it off, as it will replace the bottom line in your guide with a an add for a PPV/VOD movie or something along those lines. I Remember when it went active on my 722's back in April, it was real annoying, reminded me of Direct and other cable DVR's, taking over a line in the guide for advertisement.

Ah, I almost never use anything but a Favorites guide so it took me awhile to figure out what everyone was talking about when it appeared on the 722.

Ok, got me stumped. What other guide is there? (Do you mean the old style scrolling guide on 117?)

No what he is talking about, is you have mutiple guides. Default is All channels, if your press guide again, its subscribed only channels, and press guide again you go to a Favorites and you can have multiple of those, like HD only and such.
If you use a favorites that only has your most common channels, some people didn't see the Banner in the guide, as it was in the All Channels and in the Sub only guide. Personally I have my guide set to sub only channels and just leave it that way.
