I have been having audio problems on two of my c51 Mini Genie's. Techs have been out several times. The last guy determined we had a bad splitter due to the fact we had a n/a for the coax signal test the other two had -12 and -13. He puts a new splitter in and we get a -15. The next day the audio skipping issue returns. The tech have me his phone number so I tell him the issue is still unresolved. His boss wants to test voltage on our cable lines and tvs.

So yesterday I decided to see to myself if we have any voltage on our lines. On one of our lines we are getting up to 30 vac. We have 8 outlets on that circuit. I unplugged everything on the circuit and got 1 volt. I plugged everything back in one thing at a time and tested each time. I got to the tv still 1 volt I plug the mini in and back up to 30 volts. I swapped genies, cables, and put in a 3G wall plate connector. Still getting 30 volts. We rg6 cable in the house. How I checked this is disconnected the line from the dtv splitter and checked voltage between the house ground and the cable. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Mark

so , were is placed PI [29 VDC !] in your setup ?
    how you got 30VAC ?
the devices connected to different phases ? with no common ground ?

Can you describe exactly how your System is wired? And what model genie you have?

The line off the dish goes to a 4 way swim splitter that is what I call it. Our four lines are hooked to that. rg6 cables are ran through the walls from there.. at the main Genie h 54 model a cable comes out of the wall to a two way splitter. From there a line goes to a deka not sure if that is what it is called? The other rg6 cable goes to the h54. From the deka a Ethernet cable goes to my asus router.

If you have AC on the coax line you have an electrical problem somewhere.
    The coax usage is DC.

If you don't have a power supply that is separate, then your hr54 is driving the dish. That means it's path to the dish must be using the power passing ports in the splitter and you should only see voltage on that line when the hr54 is plugged in. No other line should have power like that.

Well nothing in a Directv install should have 30 VAC. You see AC voltages on coax in a cable TV plant, but the taps that deliver to homes don't pass AC so you shouldn't see it in your house.

It could be faulty equipment, or it could be your house's ground is damaged. If Directv can't resolve the issue, you should have an electrician come out. It could be something dangerous that could start a fire or injure/kill someone if ignored.

The fact that he is reading 30 volts makes me think he is actually reading DC. I can't think of anything AC that is 30 volts.

Have you checked the mini alone?

Yea James I tried two other minis no change. When I disconnect the cable from the minis no voltage.

This might be out there, but,
run a long extension cord from the place the mini that is working without voltage to the mini that shows voltage and see if the outlet you are using might be faulty.

How exactly are you testing the line to see this 30 volts?

Unhook the line at the swim splitter touch the positive lead to the rg6 copper conductor and the negative lead to earth ground.
