I was thinking that also, if it was obvious that there were 8-or more, but hard to tell what the or more amount is..... would 8 or more be correct or impossible to determine be the correct answer?

I think unknown means you see a limited amount, but you can't tell how many there are. Obviously more than 8 isn't equal to unknown if you can tell there are more than 8.

However I have a feeling this one is going to make folks unhappy.

We saw one fish cooking for one tribe, but never saw it caught or brought to camp.

We saw two fish speared by one tribe.

We saw more than 8 snails/mussels/etc caught... however we also saw all of those dropped and we don't know if they were recovered.

So what's the answer going to be. 1-2, more than 8, or unknown?

I would say more than 8, because it's obvious that Lex and Ethan had just caught the 8+ they brought back to camp and then layed out. Had we not seen this, I would have said impossible to determine based on what Chapera had caught.

Yeah, this one is going to make quite a few people unhappy. I just realized this afternoon that the "more than 8" option and the "impossible to determine" option left a very vague area.

So, here's the ruling and the explanation for the ruling:

The correct answer is "More Than 8" and this poll is worth 12 points.

    Here are the reasons:

    1. First of all, the mollusks that Sue was scraping off of the rocks are not Cone Snails or Cone Shells as Rupert called them. They are in fact Limpet shells. If Sue had in fact been prying off Cone shells, she most likely would either be dead now, or have been helicoptered off of the island because Cone shells are very poisonous. But, with that being said, Limpet shells are still considered "sea life" because they require salt water to live. They don't live in the salt water all of the time, but if they fall outside of areas where they get hit with wave action, they die. So, they are sea creatures.

    2. So, with that ruling comes the question of how many limpet shells Sue caught OR brought back to camp. Very clearly she dumped out her buff full of the things. But, those don't count for this challenge because we didn't SEE her catch those ones by prying them off the rocks. I've gone back and watched the recording, and very clearly we SEE her pry 5 of the shells off of the rock. Therefore, she catches 5 creatures that qualify as "sea life"

    3. We know that Rupert must have caught at least one fish because we saw it cooking over the fire. However, we did not see him catch the fish, and we did not see him bring the fish back to camp, so that fish does not count for this poll.

    4. We saw Lex fishing, but did not see him catch more than 2 fish. However, we did see Lex bring a bag of fish back to camp, and we did see Lex spread those fish out on the ground. There were 7 fish, and we also clearly saw that once the seventh fish was out of the bag, the bag was empty.

So, counting the 5 limpet shells that Sue caught, and counting the 7 fish that Lex brought back to camp, a total of 12 "fish" were caught AND/OR brought back to camp, meaning that the correct answer to this poll is "More Than 8"

Heh, I'll have to listen to my wife more often. She was who told me Richard would win the poll over Rupert and to vote more than eight for this one since she thought that with Richard gone, people would be wanting to 1)get fish to eat and 2) assert themselves as providers.

However, we did see Lex bring a bag of fish back to camp, and we did see Lex spread those fish out on the ground.

Oops, I missed that scene. Oh well.

Heh, I'll have to listen to my wife more often.

hehe My wife said pretty much the exact same thing. Boy aren't we jerks. ;)

Hmm.. the question said "Catch or Brought into camp". I guess Mark used the wide definition of catching. Scrapping of the side of the rock would not be my definition of catching and Sue's bag of muscles were never shown back at campe so there goes the second part of the question. I would more call what Sue was doing as harvesting and not catching, but that is me.

I would have ruled this one as being 7-8. Lex caught 7 fish and Sue harvested a number of stuff off rocks. But Mark does have the final say and I must respect it.
