For those looking for the splitters that will work, see the enclosed First Look on the SL5S model where the group provided info on a number of different models. Good info in here. They would apply to a SL3S or SWM8 as well.

http://hr20.dbstalk.com/Slimline SWM ODU LNB First Look.pdf

A number of them start at 5 Mhz and work well. Doen't mean they don't work at 2 Mhz, just means there may be some loss below 5 Mhz.

    Welcome to the "team".

I was just up in White River Junction, VT last week Thursday as part of a "mini-vacation". Beautiful country indeed. North New Hampshire was already in peak colors...thought I'd share a few photos.

I also have some photos of the new SWM8....since this is what this thread is all about!

So it sounds like these are not coming with splitters? Just want to be prepared ;)

No...they don't. In addition, not just any-old-splitters will properly work.

They have to support the proper frequency range (about 5-2150 or higher Mhz), as well as signal pass-through.

The Skywalker SKY 23302D (2 outputs) splitter with pass-through has worked with the SWM quite well and for some time.

Mine, like many others, also did not come with install instructions. In my case, that's not a big deal, but for others....you'll need to go into the SWM thread and get some info there.

Yup, realize you have to use HF splitters. I plan on getting one of the STS 4 ways and probably a Perfect Vision 2 Way that is supposedly supported. Just wanted to make sure I dont buy anything that is going to come with it anyways!

Sorry to be so long in replying, but the RS splitter is rated at 40 - 2150MHz costs $15 and so far is working fine.

I'm gonna still have to run 4 legacy tuners (2 R15's) so I think I'll be hooking my SWM8 in parallel with my WB68 multiswitch. Anyone got a link to a good hookup schematic and parts list? (Hard to do effective planning from a subtropical beach vacation :p)

Got my SWM-8 yesterday. In about a week I get another HR2x. I will then connect both my HD-DVR's and my old SD-DVR.

Thanks so much for the equipment and the opportunity to test it! Will report back when it's up and running.

Got it today, thanks everyone. Just in time for a wiring mod. My desire is to diplex my OTA into the H20 and HR20 (this one has has seperate OTA) since what; Santa or there abouts. I will also have to use the legacy ports for the DVR-80 and my plan is to also split into my whole house cable run so that if desired I can "lend" a room a receiver as well as diplexed OTA for casual watching. One room is out since there is a bogus splitter hidden in the wall.

Again thanks to the team, I'll get it in maybe Sunday if the real job permits.

Just picked up the SWM8 from Fedex. They have me booked solid tomorrow so it might have to wait till sunday. Maybe I'll try a go at OTA also and ditch the locals from D* and save a penny.

I think all current Directv packages include locals these days, so dropping them may not be an option. But good luck with the install. Can't wait to give it a go myself. :)

Well I have been working on my plan for months, then found some issues so I worked on totally redoing it today. Might look funny in the picture because you dont see the physical spaces/runs I have in place, but you get the idea and thought I would share ;)

(Note that there are other TVs in the house that will go off of a larger OTA splitter, the one pictured was a mistake, supposed to be a bigger one and will have more runs off of it)

I am hoping it will all work as planned, been lots of researching and figuring to get OTA, SWM, and RF Modulator signals all fit into the existing runs. Plus my OTA antenna comes in at a different point than the dish which makes it harder as well! Not to even mention the fact of how ridiculously hard and now thanks to some improvements in a few rooms impossible it is to run cables in our house! The second HD-DVR will be purchased soon if my tests go well once I get things setup :D

Also happy to be testing with you all on this one... thanks to Doug and that wonderful anonymous person at DirecTV! :)

Got my SWM-8 priority overnight this morning... they aren't kidding around! Guess they want us to get testing pronto! :D

I might have to hook the HR10 back up to the legacy ports and test--not sure how many people have that kind of configuration anymore.

By the way....I wrote up a "First Look" on the SWM8 a few minutes ago...

    http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=142221

I guess having done 2 other "First Looks" before....I figured it was my "duty", and also a way of thanking Doug and DirecTV for being included in this testing group. :)
