Have no idea how you got that out of my comments. I was talking about the gaping hole, comparing other carriers, and life-or-death TV. Nowhere did I mention adding channels. Please don't twist my words or points.

And I have no idea how you can say that it's fine for the self-proclaimed sports leader to be missing HD sports channels. I understand that you don't care about sports, but DirecTV supposedly does, and a good-sized portion of their subscriber base does as well.

Please read my post accurately and quit trying to make something out of nothing.

As I clearly said, and you should understand, DirecTV is a business. They provide what they believe their customers want and what can be done profitably. A faction of people from Chicago wanting their sports teams may or may not be in DirecTV's best interest, nor in the interest of their other customers. And, being a sports leader does not mean they have to carry every available sports channel that exists.

I thought the issue was money. Apparently, it's a "face saving measure." So, which is it? Do you know that DirecTV isn't offering as much per subscriber as Dish? If it's true that adding WGN America HD to the extra pack will "help" DirecTV, why hasn't this been persuasive to DirecTV? Without knowing the numbers, this is particularly useless speculation, even in the context of this thread.

If you could care less why are you posting in this thread?

Because I do care about DirecTV's HD lineup and what it will cost me each month.

You clearly have no understanding of the Cubs' fanbase, nor do you comprehend that these games have value to sports fans with no connections to the city or its teams.

It's not like we're talking about some fringe channel with no programming of merit; WGN has a significant quantity of MLB and NBA games. DirecTV claims to be THE sports leader, but somehow can't deliver in this instance.

There should never be an HD feed of an MLB, NFL, NBA or NHL game that's unavailable on DirecTV.

    Its both.

I see no reason to share everything I know with you especially with your history of condescension. Its pretty obvious what the answer is to your questions.

I was born and raised in the midwest, so yes I do. I also understand very well that it's only a game!

Guess I must have missed where DirecTV ever said that.

I've had all the fun I care to on this topic. You guys argue yourself ad nauseum.

I guess I'm not smart enough to guess the obvious answers. It does seem to me that no face saving is required, since the contracts are private and no one would know who is paying how much for what. You do seem to believe that I should take on faith the assertion that you have some inside information. I don't.

I think I have said enough without violating confidences, probably even too much. Other people have put two and two together and figured it out, surely a university of Chicago guy can do it too. We both know that there is no info I could give that would make you believe me.

It's not that I don't believe that you're reporting accurately what you've been told. I think you've done that in the past, too, with respect to your certainty that the Canning group would buy the Cubs, and your near certainty that there would be few or no Cubs games on WGN by this time. I don't doubt your good faith, just the reliability of your sources. I'm sorry if you think that's being condescending. It's not meant to be. But, if you're not at liberty to say what you know, I'm still left puzzled by DirecTV's failure to carry a station broadcasting over 100 MLB games in HD. I really don't know which side is being unreasonable.

They are also not delivering ESPNU in HD, and a few RSN's are missing altogether. Mix that in with a few nationals missing in HD and you wonder what's keeping D* from closing the deal and completing things. As always, it probably comes down to $$$.

Again, I mean no offense and each to their own. I personally don't care whether WGN is in HD or not. If it is, fine. If not, fine. I don't consider it a gaping hole because it's not missing altogether and it's not most every single game. The Brave games on Peachtree TV aren't in HD. ESPNU isn't in HD. Directv can't even get CSN Philly for those fans. To me, the last one is a gaping hole. Not the lack of a channel in HD. That's all. If it is a big deal to you, great. Just to me, it is not that big a deal for me to see those games in HD.

As a Cubs fan and an Extra Innings subscriber, I always prefer the game to be on CSN because that means I can watch the Cubs broadcast in HD. I obviously can't do that when it's on WGN.

It's not a big deal to me. I hate baseball, and I don't watch anything on WGN. But I'm not so short-sighted as to gloss over a mainstream missing channel.

Now that the WWE has a weekly show on WGN maybe some more pressure will be put on Directv, especially if the ratings are strong. The sports fans may be upset about not being able to see the HD games, but I think the wrestling fans can take it to a higher level!
