Redesign the whole gawdy looking thing. It is too imposing and just butt ugly. The only thing it needs to show is.....drum roll....the playback timeline progress. NOTHING ELSE. No logos, clocks or other BS.

Make it half as tall or less, lose the logo, and also get rid of the program title - the title is readily accessible via Info. And while you're at it, I'd shrink pretty much everything in the UI - would love a smaller font option - it feels like an SD UI, but this box is built for HD, make it look like HD! Oh and I agree with the previous poster, no clocks and other fluff, keep things as much as possible out of the way of the program.

Yup - this is a big problem, that EXIT has dual purposes: clear graphics, and return to LIVE TV. Problem is if you're trying to clear graphics during playback from the playlist and get an extra keybounce on EXIT or just time it a fraction of a second later (after the graphic clears itself), you get thrown out to live TV, and that's not what you wanted.

See the bottom of my signature for a thread discussing this further ...

Make it look (like) the TiVo progress bar. Small, unintrusive, functional.

The current one does look like it was mocked up in MS Paint, as someone said earlier, and they never bothered to finish the design.

Let's be fair - the current HR2X progress bar is quite functional. I agree the looks leave something to be desired, but the progress bar works well showing the current position, the tick marks, and even one-ups the TiVo progress bar by having thinner progress bar height when a program is padded at the beginning or end.

That being said, the progress bar would benefit from being enhanced ... the looks especially.

+1 to thin and unobtrusive. I definitely don't need to see the DirecTV logo in this context. I'm a proponent of something like this:

Likewise. I don't need any information on there, other than how much is in the buffer/recording and where I am in it. KISS principle definitely applies to this one!

That's what the INFO bar is for. :) For the amount of times you truly need to see either, why clutter up the screen every single time the PROGRESS BAR is displayed?

True, the HR2x progress bar does what it does and does it well.

I don't understand your point about the HR2x bar being thinner than the tivo bar when programs are padded though. It's been a long time since I've padded a recording on my TiVo but I don't remember and can't imagine how modifying the length of the program would effect its height.

I should clarify - I'm not talking about the entire frame of the progress bar, which inclusdes the blue background... I'm only talking about the bar that is orange when you watch a recording from the playlist. (This orange bar has the tick marks in it.)

When you pad a recording to start early, let's say 5 minutes, the height of the orange bar is shorter for the 5 minutes that are padded. The bar then returns to normal height.

If you pad at the end, the same occurs: The height of the orange bar is shorter in the padded portion of the recording.

(You can test this now by picking a program and padding it 5 minutes, but you'll only see this shorter-height bar at the beginning, because the current NR has a bug where the trailing padding bar height is the same as the rest of the bar.)

Another vote to make it thinner.
It pops up and blocks a big part of the screen. I've been bothered by this since the early R15 days.

    Huge Directv Logo? Obnoxious.

The progress bar shown above is perfect. Maybe add tick marks and change the color.

Voted "Other". I agree with KISS principle. HD Tivo approach works in a way that shows that it has only one function: tell me where I'm at. And don't overly intrude on the screen so I can't see what's behind it without pressing another button to get rid of it. The automatic removal of the PB when hitting "one frame forward" is a huge benefit.

It's easy to use computers to tell us a million things at once. Sometimes it's just best to only get what you need. I believe that is the case here. Sometimes, too, it's hard to get programmers to admit that someone else got it right already and just do the same thing (assuming there's no copyright issues  ).

I dont mind the D* logo, but the height needs to be reduced. Minimal screen coverage is best, why do we need the blue background?
