    Hi,

    My drive is acting flaky and I'd like to replace it with a larger capacity drive.

    I know this voids the agreement with DTV and have been doing this type of an upgrade going back to the HR10-250's.

    Does anyone know what the form factor for the drive is and also the usual make/model?

    Thanks!
    Tom

    I would try to run Diags (press Select during boot time) and see if there is any HDD problem;
    if it will show any code - call CSR and replace whole DVR

    If it's like the 44s, it has a 1TB WD drive. I've never had a 54 open, just my 44. Easy once you know how to do it...all my HRs are owned and I've been inside all of them.

    Was the 44's drive a 2.5 inch form factor?

    Half-height with a piece of foam on top (HR44).

    Thanks. That seems like a pretty snug fit. With any luck I'll be doing my upgrade this weekend.

    You should have no problems with the fit of the HDD into the sled, it's made for that size.

    so, any HH form-factor 3.5" SATA drive will fit, preferable AV kind

    Just about any WD HDD will work. I use Blue Caviar HDDs (WD). It depends on the sled size, the only small sled I know of is in the 24-200s. They come with a Seagate Pipeline small form HDD (500GB). Cannot fit a normal 3.5 HDD in that sled easily.
