Oh, White GUI reminds me... the white captioning...it's not bright enough. It looks washed out. All the colors do.

I'm calling it the "Cielo Azul" GUI. I asked what DIRECTV called it internally (Microsoft and Apple named their GUIs, dontchaknow) and was told they didn't have a name for it. SO I made one up :)

Sorry everyone. I had "Cielo Azul" GUI listed as one of the Nice items. Jokes on me! I thought that you all knew the correct term and I was still calling it the White GUI.

I hope that DIRECTV is reading this thread. I want to make it as easy for them as we can to understand exactly what we are requesting so I changed it to White GUI.

Sorry, didn't mean to mislead anyone. But I still think it's a cool name and I hope if I keep using it, it will get picked up in the halls at El Segundo.

Would be nice now, definite in the long-term: Fix pillar mode to not have black bars on the sides when in gray pillar mode. (Same issue as on the HR20.)

    Cheers,
    Tom

    Which ones?

The full size bars, that the networks are adding to the image?
Or the ones that are few pixels wide... on the edge before the grey...

I am not sure either one could be fixed on either system.... as those are part of the image being sent.

When the receiver adds the pillars. Other recievers, TVs, (and the networks when they add them) adjust the pillars by actually cropping into the sent image. Normally just a little bit, well below the safe overscan range. Same thing that it does when it does PIG and PIL, btw. No black top/bottom or sides.

    Cheers,
    Tom

For the pillars, there could be a 4:3 mode of a 16:9 image. This could be either a stretch or modified crop mode. In stretch, the H21/HR20 would chop the pillars and then stretch then image to the edges (kinda like 4:3 already works), but in modified crop mode it would leave only the center section while removing the pillars (regardless of what's there). These are just two other types of video modes that may be useful.

    I moved:

Spanky/Brott/LC/BMR - After 3 Sec hold of INFO button, left arrow does not work correctly

...from must complete before release to would be nice to complete.

The reason is that this feature is not even documented in the manual. I hope you all are OK with this.

So we have found that there are 4 features stated the manual that do not work well enough for it to be released today. I understand that there are other issues that go far beyond completion of the feature set.

    Regardless, Good job DIRECTV!

+1 priority. SD locals need to work in every market. Sacramento, CA DMA not working.

EDIT: SD locals in Sacramento, CA are now working... 8/7/2007

One button guide would be a nice addition.

At this point, Mrs. Shadow and I agree that the one-button guide is the most important missing feature on H21. Hopefully this will be implemented in the new GUI.

    As of 0x400c...

It appears everyone is getting all of their channels.

All but one are not having the Regular Schedule bug.

So at this point the critical problems are down to:

Must Have Features and Corrections Prior to Release
Carl6 -"Regular Schedule" Guide problem after reboot
RAD - fix HDMI issue with Dell LCD panel
    Coffey77 - Audio Issue : Drops

Having been on the "other side", let's not all dismiss any member that are still having problems.
The units needs to work for all of us before we give it our CE certification. IMO

Now that I am at 400C software, the guide appears to be working okay. Will confirm that tomorrow after it has had time to sit for awhile.

    VOS,

I don't think anyone wants to dismiss any of the problems. DIRECTV made huge advances with this release. They deserve praise for that.

In other cases, there are fewer reporting the problems. Remember the early HR20 releases when sometimes we would have more problems after a release than before?

At this point the key problems seem to be "Regular Schedule", HDMI issues,Audio Dropouts, and the Guide button.

    DIRECTV is doing good.

I think the ones that are only a few pixels wide are basically coming from the receiver. When the receiver is adding the grey bars to SD channels they are just a few pixels too narrow. Just changing the width of the grey bars would probably solve the problem.

I just was a bit miffed with all of the "this is ready to go" when I couldn't get my local SD channels, so I wanted to stand up for anyone that still has a problem. :)
