I’m guessing they want you to use the app or subscribe to ESPN+?

I got an email today from Directv regarding the same topic that ESPN Classic is going away, but Directv indicated its rights to carry it end November 30th.....

    Important information regarding your account-

Our rights to provide ESPN Classic will expire on November 30, 2019 and the programming will no longer be available. As the cost of sports content continues to rise, few distributors now offer ESPN Classic and instead prioritize live competition over game repeats. AT&T continues to offer popular regional, national, and international sports competitions involving individual teams, conferences, and major professional franchises. We regret any inconvenience.

As a DIRECTV customer with service in Wisconsin, you may cancel any television programming offering affected by this programming change, without incurring an early termination fee, disconnect fee, or change of service fee. To cancel, call 1-800-288-2020 by December 31, 2019.

    Thank you for choosing DIRECTV.

This channel ceased to serve a purpose long ago. SD reruns of decades old ball games is not compelling programming, in an era with ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPNews (which should be renamed ESPN Talk), SECN, ACCN, B10N, LHN, FS1, FS2, CBSSN, NBCSN, dedicated networks for pro football, baseball, hockey, golf, and tennis, and OTA Stadium Network, most of which show game reruns a filler; and in an era where similar content is available on ESPN and other networks internet, and similar content is available, for free, on you tube.

Or ESPN 3, since it’s not the dedicated SportsCenter channel it used to be.

What providers are left carrying the channel?
It's a wonder ESPN didn't convert it into an ESPN Extra/3 type of channel showing live sports that were not on the main channels. Surely ESPN has enough rights for it to show live sports even when certain times when all channels are being used

I beg to differ, ESPN classic serves a huge purpose for me and is one of my most watched channels. I love watching classic games from the past. Watching them on YouTube is not the same. I'll be very disappointed to see it go away.

The ESPN Classic content is still available via ESPN's on demand service.

So they are deleting the channel so they don't have to pay any additional fees and yet I'm not getting any fee reduction for their reduced expenses. Lovely.

I always hate when channels go away. I have had Premier and have had MLB EI and NFLST since day one in 2001. I don't complain about price increases they are the nature of the game but I don't want content removed under the guise of saving money because I know I will pay more next year regardless. I realize with the league nets Classic has lost its niche to a degree but I was hoping since it was ABC related there would be a reprieve at the last minute or there would be a way to bring it back at some point.

I'm on the phone with DirecTV right now and they're telling me they didn't drop the channel and that it's still available on the Premier package. This doesn't sound correct to me at all. It was my understanding that this channel is going away for everyone, regardless of the package.

She just came back and finally admitted I was right after telling her the channel was being pulled. I was able to get $15 off per month (to offset the Sports Pack since the only other channel I watch on that package is the ACC Network) for the next 12 months.

ESPN Classic has slowly been dropped from various providers since 2014 when it was converted to an on demand channel on Dish. None of the OTT services except for PlayStation Vue carried the channel (PS Vue is ceasing all operations by the end of January 2020.) Right now only the smaller providers like Mediacom, Sparklight (formally Cable One) and Frontier (FiOS/IPTV services) carry ESPN Classic.

Similar to SoapNet's slow demise it seems Disney is not including ESPN Classic in its new carriage agreements and will slowly sunset the channel completely once most agreements are exhausted.

The big providers like Xfinity (#1), DirecTV (#2), Charter (#3), Dish (#4), Verizon FiOS (#5), Cox (#6), AT&T U-Verse TV (#7) and Altice USA [Optimum/Suddenlink] (#8) no longer carry the channel. They represent a total of 55.3 million traditional pay-TV customers and not even all those customers subscribed to ESPN Classic.

Once Mediacom (#9), Frontier (#10), Atlantic Broadband (#11) and Sparklight (#12) and contracts come up for renewal with Disney I suspect they will also drop ESPN Classic as well. They only represent about 2.1 million TV customers and I bet the amount of them that actually subscribe to ESPN Classic is small.

You won't see your price decrease just because AT&T ceased carriage of this one channel. Most likely the fee increase Disney asked for all their other channels (ABC O&Os, all ESPN channels, all Disney channels & Freeform) probably was more than the small savings they got by dropping ESPN Classic.

There is supposed to be ESPN Classic content on WatchESPN for those who subscribe to ESPN. This was supposed to be added in 2015. (I rarely use WatchESPN so idk if the content is still there someone else would have to answer that.)

It was nice to watch ESPN Classic again during my recent stay in Vegas at the MGM Grand. Not sure who their provider is.

The WatchESPN app has been replaced with the ESPN app. I do not see any ESPN Classic content on the app.
