Well, it's Friday and wonder of wonders, I have ESPN HD this evening.
To answer some of your questions:
    1. No, it's not an authorization issue. All programming worked fine except ESPN.
    2. No, it's not an LNB or multiswitch issue. My sat signal is fine, and again, all other channels work just fine.

At the end of the day, it really matters not to me why it happened, but that it is fixed. The fact that I did nothing and then magically 5 days later it works leads me to believe the issue was on their end, but who knows?
I doubt I'll ever figure it out.
    Thanks to all who helped!

    Middle...
With regard to your satellite signals, have you checked all transponders on all sats? Have you run System Tests on both receivers?

The reason I ask of course, is that the problems you are experiencing do NOT appear to be widespread (I have had no problems with ESPN channels - I'm watching SportsCenter right now in fact). That means there's probably something happening with your receivers, your dish/LNB, cabling or multiswitch.

I did run the system test tonight. Getting some weird readings on a couple of satellites.
Going to do a dish adjustment this weekend...that very well may be the issue.

That's how intermittent problems are; they come and go, like the one I had in my LNB.

Wanted to get back to everyone. I originally was frustrated because no easy answer was forthcoming. I talked with 3-4 techs who all gave different answers. I was also getting weird readings on my transponders.
Bottom line: one month later I haven't done a thing and all is back to normal. I don't know what to make of it, but I suspect there was some weird sunspot/ alien/ tachyon particle thingy going on.
    Go figure.

    Thanks to all.

Maybe I just don't understand, but this was a DTV issue, why would someone go to Dish network to register for HD to fix a DirecTv problem???:confused::confused::confused::hurah:

That would be what is commonly referred to as a troll.
