FSN BAY AREA!! Gotta see my Giants in the Spring and watch some Sharks! (I haven't watched a Sharks game since I left San Jose 5 years ago only because I can't see the freaking puck!!)

I would like to see FSN-North, FSN-Rocky Mountain.

Basically any RSN that will show some college hockey games. I would like to see the Fighting Sioux play in HD this year.

    Yes and no and maybe.

    Some are not up.

    Some are up part time.

Some have limited range (like when CSN Mid Atlantic was on spotbeam, folks in Baltimore didn't get it, only metro DC even though it was 24/7).

Most likely those asking for their "local" are outside the immediate market or want it 24/7.

Actually, no. Only the SF-San Jose spot beam carries FSNBA-HD. The rest of Northern California (Sacramento-Stockton-Modesto, Fresno, Salinas-Monterey, Chico, and Redding-Eureka DMAs) and Western Nevada (Reno-Carson City) that are part of the FSNBA market do not get the HD channel. We've been told to cool our jets by D* until the channel is provided nationally.

Relatively few Giants, Warriors and Sharks games are shown in HD on FSNBA. My assumption is the number will increase if the channel is 24/7. I'm only going to see games from other RSNs as part of MLBEI or some other sports package. Even though I've lived in the Bay Area for 35+ years, I grew up in Chicago and I'm still a Cubs fan. CSN Chicago has already been added. Superstation WGN does not have an HD version, but I'd vote for it if you define it as an RSN, which it isn't.

According to FSNBA website, they are showing almost all of the Sharks and Warriors home games in HD. That seems like more than"relatively few."

Relatively few may be shown on DirecTV, but FSN Bay Area carries ALOT of games in HD.

This year, of the sharks 41 home games, 30 are being carried in HD by FSN Bay Area. 47 of the Giants 81 home games were shown in HD, along with 40 of the A's games. 30 Warriors games are being shown in HD this coming season.

Basically, you can watch a game in HD on FSN Bay Area darn near every night... as long as you're not on DirecTV! I don't know how many more games they could show with a 24/7 channel, either. Last I spoke with them, they aren't set up to go "on the road" with HD broadcasts, so it's basically home games only... They've got most of the Sharks already... Giants & A's would probably pick up some games, but since they play at the same time, there will inevitably be overlaps where it's one or the other (until they get a 2nd channel up). Warriors, they've got most of the home games as well....

All the Giants games listed at http://fsnbayarea.com/HD_Giants.jsp were on DirecTV this year. Maybe I shouldn't have used the term "relatively few." I'm unaware of any FSNBA games produced in HD that are not carried by DirecTV. Are you saying that there are some?

You are correct that many of the Sharks, Giants, and A's games were on DirecTV. They were only on in the SF/SJ/Oak DMA. Anywhere else that FSNBA covers including Monterey, Sacramento, Stockton, Modesto, Redding, Chico, Reno, Fresno, etc. has been shut out of HD. The channel has been on 96 which is spotbeamed. We are speaking of adding the channel to the CONUS dish so the entire viewing area for FSN can see the games just like the Bay Area. We have only gotten a select few games when they show FSNBAHD on Channel 94 or 95. I think there were 2 or 3 sharks games, about 10 Giants games (thanks to Barry *), and I don't even think any A's games.

I will continue to wait patiently. FSN is only covering about 7 HD Sharks games in the next two months. But once January rolls around, every home game is in HD. I hope it is added by then.

I think what Sharkie is saying that you may not be aware of is that Sharkie and I, living in Watsonville and Reno respectively, are outside of the FSNBA spotbeam which only gives access to FSNBA-HD to specific zips. Until FSNBA is added as a national RSN via CONUS, we do not get ANY HD games from FSNBA even though we are in FSNBA's home market. I moved from Livermore in July and miss the HD dearly. :(

    That is certainly true.

I actually didn't think that ALL the FSN Bay Area broadcasts got picked up by DirecTV. Since they don't even show up in my guide, I only know of the half dozen or dozen games that showed up on 95.

Before the new satellite, depending on how many RSNs had games in HD on a given night, there existed the possibility (though rare) that they might not show your game. IIRC, when they first started rolling out RSNs in HD, they had a dozen or so go live, with the capacity to broadcast 10 simultaneously... banking on the fact that all 12 markets wouldn't have a game at the same time on the same night.

IF FSN Bay Area never got "pre-empted" by another RSN, then I stand corrected on that point... though I still would argue that 90% of a team's home games is "relatively few".:D

I am aware that the FSNBA HD is limited to the zip codes listed on their website and I've posted this information before:

Select zip codes in the following ranges: 940-941, 943-951, 954
NOTE: Currently only customers in select zip codes within the above mentioned ranges can get FSN HD on DirecTV. Some zip codes within these ranges may not have access to FSN HD due to DirecTV spot beam limitations.

[There has been quite a bit of discussion about whether these restrictions are actually caused by spot beam limitations.]

    http://fsnbayarea.com/FSNHD.jsp

I thought you were saying that some Giants games produced in HD weren't carried by DirecTV at all. I understand that it's more important to you than to me for FSNBA to go CONUS, and I'm pulling for you. I also want MORE HD broadcasts on FSNBA and hope they will come with a 24/7 channel.
