    I have 2 Directivo's and one spare.

As long as they all work, I will be a customer.. I can't even remember what Cable TV is anymore!!

My only concern deals with the leased-equipment issue when adding or replacing equipment. Don't want to start that discussion, but if customers are willing to buy their own gear, why offer a further subsidy by having leased equipment? What will stop sombody from changing equipment monthly or weekly other than shipping costs?

I chose Dish network.I just left Directv for Dish.I left Directv because thier premium channel selection is very lacking.Dish has many more movie channels which is what im interested in.

Could it be the additional committment incurred by acquiring new equipment? You can sometimes (but not always) weasel out of the Dish Network 18 month committment, but I think the DirecTV 24 month committment is pretty iron clad.

That and all of the cool equipment has a drive-off cost associated with it.

I think that if you look closely, they both offer about the same number of movie channels. D* is into Starz at the expense of the rest, but the count is just about equal.

That is NOT TRUE.Directv does not carry all the Starz channels like starz kids and family ,starz cnema,or starz comedy. They also dont carry HBO Signature or HBO Comedy Nor do they carry Showtime Beyond or the movie channel xtra or they dont carry 5 star cinemax need I go on?

I stand corrected. D* only carries East, West, In Black and Edge varieties. The Encore programming that comes with AT180 and DishHD Gold make up the other eight channels. Regardless of the relationship between Starz and Encore, Encore is no substitute for the Starz offerings.

    Sorry about that.

DirecTV does have HBO Signature, its on channel 503 IIRC.

Without counting west coast feeds of anything, Dish has all the premiums DirecTV does (except for HBO Family W) plus :

    HBO Comedy
    Actionmax
    5Starmax
    Starz Cinema
    Starz Comedy (coming to E*)
    Starz Kids & Family
    The Movie Channel Xtra
    Showtime Beyond

    Neither DBS provider has
    HBO Zone
    Thrillermax
    Outermax
    WMax
    @Max
    Showtime Next
    Showtime Women
    Showtime Family Zone
    Encore Movie Plex
    Cinemax HD
    The Movie Channel HD
    Starz HD

Only DirecTV has my favorite programming package, the NFL Sunday Ticket. My main complaint about DirecTV is their decision to replace the Tivo DVRs with their own crummy substandard models. At some point in time, I'll have to decide if getting the NFLST is worth having to put up with DTV's DVRs.

Which still proves my point Directv is lacking in the premium arena.I know I had Directv and hated their premium choices and yes I made a mistake
Directv does carry HBO signature they are lacking so many its hard to keep up.

DirecTV due to Sports and 4K . The only other provider i would chose is a fiber provider (fios , uverse etc)

ive had dish, cable and directv. dish was good, cable was atrocious. ive been a directv customer for many years. dish has more channels that i would like to have but the generous bill credits D offers and the double play feature on directv is what keeps me with them. if dish had a double play type feature, id switch tomorrow.

I'm curious, what does the double play feature do that picture-in-picture doesn't?

double play lets me pause one channel, tune to another, pause that one and switch back and forth between the 2 without losing buffer or having another screen in the corner of the tv. im not sure if dish has that feature now or not. there was a way to kind of do it with dish by switching using the input button but it didnt always work right. i use double play daily.

Dish has only one buffer, but when I'm in that situation, I just record both and watch one later.

If the channel is OTA, I use my dual tuner TiVo.
