Why are 4k football games darker?

I would check your TVs settings for when it flips to HDR mode

almost every TV turns the brightness up to 100% along with other changes

 

check if the game coming with HDR mark, be sure your UHD TV support HDR and the mode is ON

 

Does your TV happen to be an OLED?

 

I know the World Series games were darker on my Sony led and Sony oled.

 

I don’t like how dark HDR makes sports

When presented with "correct" HDR content, some OLED TVs scale the overall brightness down to maintain the relationships between dark and light.

That doesn't appear to be in play here as everyone is seeing a relatively dark image. Football is certainly not known for its shades of black.

 

I don't have Directv 4K, but whenever I watch 4K from streaming it is dark. The settings for HD have the backlight at 12 of 20 but there are separate separate settings for 4K. Even with 20/20 and other things set higher, it is still darker than HD. This is true for every 4K program I have ever watched and this is not the first post like this. HDR mode makes HD programs dark but has no effect on 4k that I can see.

 

I have a Sony XBR-55X900F LED and a Sony XBR-65A9G OLED and don't have the problem either. Games in 4K look great on both sets.

 

Then something is wrong. HDR reproduces a greater range of luminosity. The picture should be brighter, not darker.

 

I dont know what POS OLED's you are looking at but i dont know of any LG or Sony that does that

 

Same issue on Xfinity. I have a Sony XBR-65X750D 2016 model LED TV. The 4K was darker until I switched my HDMI inputs. It is still not has bright as watching the HD feed but is acceptable.

 

on the TV ? How Sony define a difference between HDMI inputs ? 4k/UHD+HDR support ?

 

The Sony XBR-65X750D Phil T owns has 4 HDMI 2.0a inputs. All inputs are HDCP 2.2 compatible for connecting to 4K video sources. HDR content is only supported by the TV's HDMI 2-3 inputs.

 

Yes, I switched from HDMI 1 to 3 and noticed quite a difference. Still not sure on how to tell if I am receiving HDR though.

 

Tune to DIRECTV channel 104. Using your Sony TV's remote press Action Menu, then select Picture Adjustments. A window will appear on the right side of the screen with information. At the top right corner of the window you should see HDR.

The dark screen seems to be an issue with how Fox does HDR for the 4K feed. The 4K Notre Dame games (NBC) and ESPN 4K games don't have this issue on my setup, they have a "normal" brightness level. Folks over on AVS forum have made similar observations.

I have a Sony X950G w/C61K FWIW.

 

Never noticed it before tonight's FOX game. BTW this is on Xfinity. Picture is still a little dark. I probably need to work on my picture adjustment settings.
