Why do I have to change the channel whenever a recording starts?

I think it would be a good idea to hook up a TV to the Genie. Then when this problem happens you can look at all that is going on in it and not be looking thru what the Minis are seeing.

The info in my last msg to you was from the DVR. It's to much hassle to hook up a TV due to where the DVR is located. It's not a huge problem just an annoyance that I will have to live with. Maybe next time it happens I'll connect my monitor back up to the TV and see if all tuners are in use on the DVR.

Mine does the same thing but we can change the channel back because there’s free tuners. We only have 2 TVs, an HR44-500 and HR24-200.

I am reactivating this thread again because this issue continues. I figured I'd wait a while but the new update didn't help.

Don't understand why when watching a live program on the DVR and nothing else is being recorded and a recording is about to begin I get a "change channel (to what is about to be recorded) or cancel recording" popup message. We now have an HR54 DVR and 1 mini (originally I had 2 minis, I removed one). When a recording is about to begin I RANDOMLY get that popup and have to change the channel to what is about to be recorded. I can go back after the change so why do I need to change it? I can understand if all tuners are in use but they aren't since I can switch back after it changes and the scheduled recording begins. What am I missing here?[/QUOTE]

First: How did I get this screen on the HR54 and does it look right (correct numbers)? Should all tuners have signal or just the ones in use? I have no idea how I got to this screen:

This is what I see. It's only sometimes not always.

I definitely think your satellite setup is incorrect. From that picture showing only 2 with signal strengths, it should be at least 5 and maybe all 7.
Call and describe this and tell them they need to come out and fix that for you.

Some with more knowledge than me can tell you for sure how many tuners should have signals.
    Wait for them to post.

But How did I get to that screen? That is TUNER signal not SAT signals. Was in the PLAYLIST when my wife hit a button and it came up. 2nd time we have seen that TUNER SIGNAL screen.

If I described this screen to the "support line" they wouldn't have a clue as to what I am talking about. It would be even better if I knew how I got to it so I can check it at other times. :)

The HR54 always is using 1 tuner -No matter on or off - the 2 Minis take 2 -tuners away - Jimmy had it right the first time on page one.

I think you are limited to 3 recordings with 2 live clients watching TV.

SO When you get that screen - (the HR54) Buffer has to clear from the last channel it was on -so it's asks to change to the recording channel.

Want it to go away - Move the HR54 to a TV and use that (instead) of the Mini- Put it on the 4K tv -Put the Hr54 on tv input 1 - Put your 4k C61K on the 4K hdmi TV input - When you want to watch 4k -Turn on the C61K and change the TV input to that input!.

When finished Change the TV input back to 1 port 1 and watch the Hr54!

NO more message on the screen. Mine is setup that way I use 2 RC7X remotes Marked with the labels included with remote so I know who is who.

When I turn on the Hr54 my TV Comes on - When I press the on Button on the RC7X remote for the c61K -it turns on and I change the tV input to Hdmi3-
When I turn it off it only turns the C61K off and I then change my tv input back to one.

When I turn everything off -I press the off button on the RC7X that controls the TV & Hr54 - ( the Second remote) I programed tv volume only -that why it doesn't turn off the tv when I press off.

NOTE: the HR54 only has 5 tuners (7) are listed those 2 are only used for recording 4K - therefore Jimmy Nailed it a week ago

There were NO recordings going at that time. There is now only 1 client (wireless mini) and 1 DVR. The first and only recording was about to begin. I have had 5 recordings going at once a couple of times on the HR54 so I am not sure where you get "2 or 3" from. The 1 client steals 1 tuner when powered on so I have 4 left to record on or 5 if client is watching a recording.

Just testing now. I am able to record 5 shows at once if the client & DVR is watched a recording:

I think you guys are missing the details or not fully reading the post. Let me clarify:

    • I have an HR54 and ONE wireless mini client (no 4K client connected) - System info shows 7 tuners are all available - 5 usable
    • NOTHING (yet) is being recorded so all tuners (whether it is 3,4 or 5 of them) should be available since client takes 1.
    • A recording (the ONLY recording) is about to begin.
    • Just before the ONLY recording is about to begin I get the "change channel" pop-up
    • I have to change the channel or the recording will be canceled but AFTER that recording begins I can go back to the original channel
Ignore every thing else in the OP because since I posted that I removed 1 client

I see this behavior occasionally as well. I let the tuner change to the "recording" and then just change the channel back to what I was watching and all works correctly. I also have an HR54 with two C61k minis. I usually see this while watching one of the minis (which is on my primary TV because it has 4k) To me, it's a minor annoyance and since I have a workaround, I don't worry about it.

No. Does that erase everything or just clear caches etc?

Basically performing a CLEARMYBOX clears the guide data database. It can take up to 48 hrs for everything to repopulate after performing a CLEARMYBOX.

It should. Minor annoyances should be fixed.
