If a DTV customer is will willing to sign another 2 year contract, they can get a discount like when you first signed the contract. Being loyal for another 2 years should be rewarded. DirecTV customers can have 2 choices, you can get another contract for 2 years.....or, if you prefer not to be on another contract, the rates will stay the same and above. Sort of like some auto insurance companies where you get discounts for keeping the same provider. Obviously, once you signed a new contract, the same penalties are still in affect if you decide to bail, just like the first two years. The cable companies always advertise that you have no obligation on staying, but why doesn't DTV counter that with "if you stay with us another 2 years, we'll give you an additional discount".
