Obviously the definition or what it is that makes up a ‘true fan’ lies in the eyes of the beholder. If Dawglink thinks he’s a true fan by attending sporting events, I say wonderful - whatever works. We live in a remote rural area, so we need to travel to attend sporting events which we do often because we enjoy it. Does that make me a true fan? By my definition, probably not. A true fan to me is the guy who listens to the game on the radio while raking leaves. A true fan to me is a gal who first thing in the AM scans the box scores in the paper. Seeing a family of 5 with 3 kids under 10 in the 1 row of box seats isn’t my definition of a true fan – But again, whatever works.

Call it what you will. The more names you throw around, the more desperate you look trying to defend your fandom.

Quite - this seems a little silly - I enjoyed seeing live them with Best, Law and Charlton as a kid (well I also saw Kidd!).

I also recall staying up late to see the 1968 European Cup final on TV (sorry I wasn't there but it was in London and I had homework)

Enough of the silliness - call them what you want and enjoy the game tomorrow.

Where near Stamford Bridge? I was at College in South Kensington in the seventies and lived very close to Stamford Bridge near Kings Road- they were great very watchable but flawed team with Cooke, Osgood etc - but I would never be a fan. Having seen Best, Law, Charlton (yes live at games because I know you will ask) there was only one team.

I think you are missing the point though - I travel through Asia and meet many Manchester United fans who I would concede are bigger fans than me........
