Why not connect broadband deca directly to swm8 splitter

My setup is pretty simple; hr20-700, hr21-100, and hr22-100. I already had a run of coaxial to my computer room from an earlier cable internet installation. I had a stand alone coaxial line available for a power inserter where an older multiswitch had received power. The installer swapped out the 5 lnb unit on the dish with the 3 LNB swm unit and used one of the four lines running down to connect to a 8 way splitter (left the no longer used 3 lines where they were running down the side of the house). So with an 8 way splitter and only 3 receivers, a power inserter and a broadband deca, why did he add in a 2 way splitter to connect one of the receivers and the broadband deca?. I asked him why and his answer was that the proper way to install the broadband deca was to chain it with a receiver.

Any reason why I shouldn't just remove the 2 way splitter and connect that receiver and the broadband deca directly into the 8 way splitter?

So off of one of the outputs of the 8-way, a 2-way is immediately attached which then goes to a receiver and the Broadband DECA? I would just remove the 2-way and hook up the Broadband DECA to the 8-way. You should be fine that way.

Thanks for the info -- I'll remove the 2 way splitter after work today.

The real question is why did he use an 8-way splitter for 3 receivers? Just ask VOS how he feels about underutilized 8-way splitters. ;)

This is how I had mine hooked up. :)

    SWS-8 Satellite 8-Way
    1. Power Inserter
    2. HR24-200 Living Room
    3. HR24-200 Basement
    4. H24-200 Bedroom-1
    5. H24-200 Bedroom-2
    6. N/C Bedroom-3 ( Future Use )
    7. Broadband DECA ==> Router
    8. N/C TAP

    No splitters in my setup!

What is that SWS-8 then?
While an 8-way may be useful for your future needs, a 4-way would work as the PI doesn't need to have a separate port & the Broadband DECA could be split with a 2-way on your shortest coax drop.
This would maximize your SAT signals and you wouldn't have "N/C" [which I hope you've terminated in a load].

the hr20 has to have the splitter in line. The hardware on the receiver doesn't receive the mrv software the same way as your other two hrxx's. leave the splitter on the back of the hr20 or you will lose the mrv programming on that receiver and possibly the rest of the mrv as well

That's only the HR20-100, and that is not the splitter in question here.

And the real reason for the use of the splitter is to power the DECA, as even the HR20-100 "receives" MRV the same way as all receivers do.

because if he works for mb(enter location here) he probably got two 2 way splitters, two 4 way and one 8 ways at his tech meeting to last 1 six day work week where he did about 7 swm installs.

I wouldn't even really mind the excessive splitter size if the unused ports were terminated consistently.
