Things in California have altered in a week:

But the significant news item is Fast-moving wildfire enters Yosemite, threatens San Francisco water, power. I had noticed Gov. Brown had declared an emergency because of this fire which puzzled me as it really isn't headed into a populated area or even Yosemite Valley. But as the article notes:

And high voltage power lines from the generator, but I doubt much of SF's electric needs comes from there.

It has been a tough couple of weeks with fires in Nor Cal for sure. Pretty much every fire agency in the Northern/Central part of the state has sent as many crews as they can. Most counties have sent 2-3 strike teams not including the OES engines the sate has activated that are manned by local gov't crews. The smoke has been the other major issue for most of the Sierra Nevada's thru Reno. Most outdoor activities have been canceled due to the "dangerous" air.

As for SF declaring a state of emergency, that was done for a few reasons. 1)power from Hetchy Hetchy dam is used for city buildings and supplies power to the Muni Metro system. 2)the water from the dam serves more than SF, but also areas of the SF Peninsula as well.

Hopefully there is a break in the weather, but So Cal is just entering their major fire season.

Wildfires in the West tend to be in my awareness zone, and it's raining here. Nonetheless, I did notice an article about a wildfire in North Carolina Wildfire’s southern flank still poses danger, officials say with an impressive photo...

... which leads me to wonder if we no longer have wildfire seasons that can be identified by calendar years.

This Big Sur Fire in mid-December is a clear indication that California no longer has fire seasons. We're in a serious dought. This picture could just as easily be in my yard except I still have a few piles of icy snow from a brief storm we had ten days ago and no fire ... yet:
