Passions, the soap opera that used to air on NBC, is now only on D*. Will this affect the subscriber base?

I hope it gains more Passions viewers! I already had DTV so didn't get it but if I didn't have it I would have gotten it for Passions.

Yes, this is the key to DirecTV's strategic plans.

Yes, combined with advertising directed through mental health facilities, this should really pull in that huge passions fan base.

Sure, D* will add a few subscribers. "Passions" viewers are very, um, passionate about the show.

I don't think it will be a signifcant number, however.

But everything that D* adds, someone is going to want.

I suggest we let this thread die off. The OP has proven to be an instigator.

Ah, but this is an interesting question that Cable Lover has put forth. DIRECTV is experimenting with programming, sponsoring programming, and even new sports series (the gaming series.)

Done right, yes, overall this will bring more subscribers to DIRECTV. As to Passions itself? I don't know.

    Cheers,
    Tom

Possibly THE dumbest show I have ever seen. And that is saying something for a soap opera.

No instigating here, just an honest question.

We just switched from FIOS back to DirecTV because my wife couldn't live without Passions. She thinks it's hilarious. FIOS had a decent picture and I had the HDTivo which was great but it was not negotiable in my house. With the new D* channels and the really not half bad DVR I'm glad we switched back but Passions was the primary driver.

Actually having problems with recording Passions. I set it up on my HR20-700 as a season pass but it will only record that 1 day, so I had to setup up as a manual recording? Anybody else have this problem?
    Thanks

It does not matter to me, but my wife is excited. So as any married guy will tell you, if wifey is happy, then I am happy. :) :)

Yes, we had missed recordings on Tuesday and Weds. Not sure what is going on. Keep in mind they rerun the whole week on Saturdays if you missed any recordings. I have seen that the HR20-700 season passes sometimes need time to get the other episodes in the to do list. (like a day or two)

No vote option for me... "I don't know"

I have seen some strange things over the years...
But I do know of at least two people locally (in my subdivsion) that switch to DirecTV because of passions... (it also didn't hurt the case when the "sold" it to their husbands with the BTN hook as well)

I voted yes. I've already had three installs where the women told me Passions was the only reason they switched to D*.

So it is definitely affecting the subscriber base. How significant of an affect, I don't know.
