    Hello all,

Apologies if this has been discussed previously, I couldn't find it via search.

I'm currently a Dish subscriber and I'll soon be going back to DirecTV (long, boring story). I want very much to use Series 2 DirecTivos for my service when I start back up with them, but I didn't know if they will activate new service with those now or not.

Does anyone know if I'll have problems activating series 2 DTivos if I restart service with them and I have the boxes already?

    Thanks in advance!

You will not have any problems reactivating the TiVo.

Not sure if there would be an issue in re-establishing service with a series 2 Tivo. I got my first (new) R10 Series 2 D*Tivo from Ebay ~ 18 months ago. Got it setup with no problems. When I bought a used R10 from Ebay a month ago, they made me get a new access card ($20) for it. Had trouble getting it to work & ironically, had to use the old card out of my standard receiver to finally get it working. Of course there was no refund for the new access card that I didn't need.

    Good luck

I have heard of them refusing to activate new customers with used equipment. Since you are a returning customer, hopefully you won't have a problem.

They generally wont activate NEW customers with OWNed equipment.

However, if you come in as a returning customer, and talk to retentions, you can usually get a very similar deal as a new customer would, if you want a 2 year commitment. If you don't, then get absolutely no frills, just activate your owned equipment. Dont get any extra receivers, free programming, nothing.

If you have an old access card they might insist that you pay $20 for a new one becasue "the old ones don't work anymore".

I've had problems, but tech support fixed what the Customer service screwed up, er well most of the problems.

When they activate it, even if you tell them this is TIVO not the regular DVR service, they have messed mine up, even when just changing my packages, I've had to call tech support every time to get them to reactivate the TIVO services needs.
