I am currently using the following receivers: HR20-700, HR21-200, HR24-500 and H24-100. They are connected to my dish using a SWM8.

Since Weaknees has announced that the HR44's are now available, I am considering replacing one of the HR's with an HR44.

Will I need to replace the SWM8 with a SWM16 as well?

Yep, you will need a SWM16 since you would have 10 tuners

I had a similar setup when I added the HR44 and DirecTV did have to add the SWM16 for me.

Yes, you would have 10 tuners in the new setup.

Thank you both. I thought that would be the case, but just wanted to make sure before I placed the order.

Just don't replace the HR24. I'd replace the 21 myself.

Only way you'd be able to do it with a SWM8 is to set the remaining DVRs to single tuner, but certainly isn't recommended. Maybe on a temporary basis.

You will also need to change the LNB to a Legacy (4) Out put and run 3 additional wire to the swm16 input If you are having D* upgrade make sure D* order includes the swm16 as the installer may or may not have it on his truck.

Not if he really has a SWM8. If he has one of them he already has a legacy LNB with 4 coax lines running to the SWM8.

However, if he really has a SWM LNB and a SWS8 (8 way splitter) which many people think is a SWM8, then yes he would need to change LNBs and run the extra lines.

and as long as the equipment is properly listed on DirecTV's system, the SWM16 will be automatically added to the work order.
