Irrelevant to you perhaps, but not everyone. I happen to have a SL for WPT.

And, BTW, each episode of the Tour takes place in a different city around the world (hence, the travel part).

PS. Haunted Houses and UFO sightings also take place all over the world. Travel isn't the same as vacation.

Then every channel could be a travel channel by that logic. Football takes place in different cities in the country, Rachael Ray visits many different places around the world, Sci Fi and History have many UFO shows. Every non fiction show on TV takes place somewhere around the world. Travel Channel was originally billed as a vacation type channel highlighting what there is to see and do around the world, and they once did a very good job at that, until they turned into the Vegas channel.

As has been pointed out many times Steve, just because you don't agree with something doesn't make it wrong.

The World Poker Tour TRAVELS every episode. They TRAVEL the globe looking for haunted houses or UFO sightings.

If Rachel Ray wanted to TRAVEL to different locales every episode, then you're right it'd be perfect. If the NFL wanted to travel around the globe every week, it'd be perfect too.

Yes, it started out as a travel/vacation channel. That's when it was owned by Trans World Airlines in an effort to increase air travel. It's since been bought several times (since that format didn't do too well) and they've broadened the scope.

Times change. Change with them or get run over.

Does Travel produce or carry shows in HD?

And likewise, just because you like something doesn't make it gospel.

World Poker Tour or Haunting on Travel Channel are as relevant to travel as Real World on MTV is relevant to music. I used Rachael Ray as an example because it's pretty sad, I see and learn more about different places around the country and world from Food Network and Get Out on HDNet then I do on Travel Channel these days. All I want to do is sit down and watch an hour or 90 minute show that highlights things to do and see in Chicago or Miami or wherever, which I think would look pretty cool in HD. The Travel Channel hasn't gone down the full road of MTV, CMT, A&E or their former sister channel TLC, but they are heading down that path. They had absolutely no problems airing travel type programming a few years ago, as long as it was about Vegas. I respect the fact that Las Vegas is a huge tourist attraction, lots to see and do, and I'd love to go there myself one day, and I don't mind they spent a lot of time airing Vegas related programming, but when it goes on for months and months and months, it gets tiring.

In flipping though, it's about a 60/40 split between HD and SD, infavor of HD, could be more or less, but that just what I notice. I do see it a lot as it's plopped right between ESPNews HD and ESPN U HD, TW has retarded channel numbering for the HD channels in my area. Right now Andrew Zimmen is on and that's in HD.

And just because a station isn't showing the programs that YOU want to watch, doesn't mean the programming isn't relevant.

There's many channels that show programs I don't want to watch. That doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the program schedule.

To reiterate, the Travel Channel is no longer simply about shows on vacation spots (much to your chagrin, I'm sure). It's about other activities/ventures/ideas/oddities/etc. that can be found all over the globe.

It has nothing to do with me liking something. I really don't care about the Travel Channel at all. I watch one show on there and it's the last thing on my Series Link list and usually gets deleted (actually, I just checked and I don't even have the WPT as a series link anymore - a victim of the 50 limit). It has to do with the negativity you display in every thread regarding things you don't like. There's lots of things in life you aren't going to agree with. Get over them and move on.

I will be as negative as I like, on whatever I like to be thank you very much. If I don't like something, I will say what I have to say. Despite what you think, I don't dislike the Travel Channel, and I don't like it much either in its current format. All I was asking for was some suggestions on what content they have that everybody is so anxious to get in HD on DirecTV, because maybe I would find some of it of interest. And nobody has really said anything but criticize me and crucify me for having an opinion that differs from their own.

What's not very constructive is hijacking quietmouse's thread.

He/she wanted to know if it was going to be turned on and you turned it into your own platform to bash the channels shows.....and by proxy those who watch it.

You turned it into a disucssion where you shoot down everyone's opinion.

Look, sorry if I made you mad but if you wanted the discuss the merits/waste of the Travel Channels shows you should have started a new thread instead of hijacking this one.

To the OP. Quietmouse I'm with you. My wife and I want to see it in the lineup.

We always thought it was kinda weird that the other Discovery Networks were in HD but not the Travel Channel. :scratchin

For me the Travel Channel, The Military Channel, and PBS are the last few channels to make my round up complete. There are a couple of others that would be nice to have but these we watch regularly.

I don't know if it's comming this week but I certainly hope so. :)

BTW, where did you hear/read it was comming out on the 21st?

I didn't hijack anything, you guys did by reading too much into what I wrote. YOU and the others have turned this into a discussion where you shoot at me for not agreeing with you and I WILL NOT back down. And I have yet to get an answer on the question I asked, what specific content on Travel Channel am I missing out on? I named two or three things on Travel I do not like, out of the whole channel, I hardly consider that bashing so open your eyes and read.

We watch a couple of those.

We going on our first cruise next month and we watched a couple of shows about cruises.

One of which is on "Do's and Don'ts" of cruising. That one was really intersting.

Hopefully we'll have it in HD soon.

Obviously some folks have a passion for this channel, which seems to happen with almost any of the remaining channels that have not migrated to HD yet.

Just because the channel itself "launches"...doesn't mean some/all carriers will provide it immediately. Agreements and related pricing have to be consummated.

Fox News HD is a good example. Now we have it.

    Patience grasshopper....

I would take the channel happily. Whether its 100% travel related or not, Id like to have it. I would definitely watch some of the poker shows.

    Dripping...
Since the OP never came back with any info to show where this was announced and DirecTV usually doesn't add new channels on Tuesdays I'd venture to say that no you won't be travelling in HD tomorrow.
