I just disconnected a wired 4K mini client, and had to call three times (of course) to request a return kit (no UPS or FedEx store near me). On the third call, they told me to just keep the equipment as it was “too old” and they would be notating my account.

Is this the end of the wired 4K setups?

No. Just cost more to return than its worth.

So the HS17 uses the same mini client? I didn’t know that. Sorry.

Still skeptical as to whether they’ll eventually charge me for the non-returned box...it is AT&T, after all.

Yep! Don't throw out anything until at least 6 months have passed.

Directv has had a few problems with the C61K, if they are finally ready to switch to the C71 series I suppose they might stop wanting the C61K back since it is kind of the HR34 of the 4K hardware.

But I agree with those who say to hold onto it for a few months to make sure - they sometimes say they don't want a receiver back then you'll see a charge for not returning it on your bill.

Had plenty of go rounds with DTV about returned equipment.
Finally paid them just to fix my account.
    $147.00 for nothing.

Just got a call from DTV asking where their receiver was.

Told them the run around and never getting a recovery kit, AND that I was told to forget about returning the receiver. They didn’t skip a beat or seem surprised. Just started the process of sending me “another” kit.

    Surprise, surprise...

You can check if receiver needs to be returned with this link, entering the first 3 of the serial number. Looks like all the 3 models of the HR24's are now off the list, but the Genie and 4K clients are still on......at least mine are.

Thanks so much for the link - I was wondering if D* was going to request the return of a defective HR24-100 when they sent me a replacement two months ago. The CSR mentioned something about returning the old DVR but they never sent me an email indicating where or if I should return it so I disregarded the initial request. Now after checking the link and your post I see that no HR24's need to be returned.

Just for fun I checked the status of some old equipment that I have - a D12 (No) and an H24 (yes). The H24 is an owned receiver but I was still surprised that they would want a leased model back.

My last receiver return was via a barcode in an email. Print it out and take it along with the receiver to the local UPS store.

No local UPS or FedEx store. They told me they were sending me a recovery kit (i.e., box).

    Two months ago.

I had different kits when it was DTV. One was for the receiver itself. One was a pre addressed and postage paid envelope to put the Smart Card in and just return it.
