I just ordered the RF remote kit for my DTV DVR. It was 30 bucks.
I didn't even open the shipping bag as it says on the bag
    "FACTORY REFURBISHED UNIT"
Now you tell me, if I am paying $30.00 for a supposed NEW unit,
should I not expect a NEW unit?
    --
    --
Now I am on hold with customer service.....
    -- -- -- -- -- :)

    DEAL REACHED................

I am getting the used unit for $15.00 instead of $30.00, they will take 5 dollars off my bill for 3 consec. billing cycles. :)
    -
    The moral of the story.....
MAKE SURE, if this is an extra remote, that then send you a brand
new 1, not a REFURBISHED UNIT! If it is a replacement unit for the original remote...that is a whole different story!

When ordering remotes there's no way to distinguish refurb from new. All assumptions are made that it will be a new one not a refurb. It had to have been a mistake at the warehouse. At least you'll get what you paid for in the end.

You say that but........... I had a CSR refuse a refund of a charge on a replacement 32RF because I did not send the defect back. Only after getting customer relations department involved, I was refunded the money.

    ===============================================

OMG! The above quote was just the beginning of this adventure.
Then I tried to set up the new remote.
It took 4 techs as not 1 had the correct instructions. We finally got it set correctly .... and then ...
the piest de resistance ... I was finally ready to activate the RF.
The last erm... "tech" that I chatted with that did get this remote set up, and I told her I wanted to activate the RF.
She proceeded to tell me that NONE of the R-15 units have RF capabilities!!!!!
And I said to myself, and to her "well then someone is lying to me BIG time!"
I told her that I had been told by a senior tech, when I 1st signed on to DirecTV and others, that all the R-15's had RF capabilities,
and the standard way to activate it was NOT in the setup menu,
but there was a special way to do it.
She basically told me I was crazy so I demanded to talk to a Supervisor.
The Super got on the phone, and he was as dumb as a box of rocks too! So.. I told him about THIS website and the forum that has the
info about the remote activation for the R-15 RF, "How to activate "RF" remote with R-15 ... DirecTV™ R-15" and the steps to necessary to activate and de-activate it.
To say the least, he was in SHOCK! He wrote all of this up and said he would present it to UPPER level Mgmnt, and his Supers.

    DUMB DUMB DUMB!
And 'THIS' puts the icing on the cake (LOL) ... When they sent
the remote, there were a few booklets that I finally got around to reading, and there:
RIGHT ON PAGE 12 & 13 ARE THE INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO
ACTIVATE THE RF FOR THE REMOTE!!!!!!!!!

    THEIR BOOK!
I am dumbfounded! Did you EVER hear such BS in your life?
Why is it that NO one from DirecTV knows what can and can not
    be done with their equipment?
Like I said when I 1st started THIS installment to the forum, OMG!

WHEW! I feel better now. What an ordeal :(

The moral of the story is always read the manual or come to a forum before calling D.

I assure it you was an error. All remotes are new. I did read your post on getting it to work and it was unfortunate that the people you talked too didn't have a clue. Most people do have trouble programming them.

also, as most in this forum can confirm, the r15 had no official suppot for the rf remote until just recently.

Mind letting us know how you can be so sure of all remotes being new?

As for the CS part of the story...that's beyond unfortunate...it's pretty commonplace with D's customer service.

I'm caught! <grin> I'm longtime Tier 2 tech support from Tulsa, Ok. Found these forums on accident. Good to know what customers think and feel.

I'd like to add a additon here for all remotes. The problem that occurs with 95% of the white universal remotes a person can't get programmed is truly not the remote. In fact, when you have problems programming your remote, go thru the menu on the front of the receiver itself and verify first and foremost that the receiver is in Direct TV mode and then continue programming it. Yes, go straight to Tier 2 for programming a RF remote.

I will add a bit here, too.. 90% of the time.. it is a patience matter.. the waiting of the 2 lights to flash before code entered & wait for it to flash the 2 times after before hitting power.. to set code in to verify..

meaning.. where the slide bar is located is where u see it flash..
*anytime u hit a button it will flash.. seriously..
*hit & hold mute,(it will flash) then hit select (while holding down mute) then WAIT for it to flash 2 times..

Enter code... it will flash 2 times.. then hit pwr under slide bar.. IF if is a usable code.. BINGO.. If it lost codes when it was used before.. reset remote..

painless.. take batteries out.. hold 1 down.. for 10 seconds.. put batteries in..
set back to factory defaults.. then mute /select (holding both down again) till it flashes 2 times.. then enter 981

Then program.. then if somehow it was programmed before.. factory defaults.. & reset.. Code should work.. if it is right code..

I can program this easier over phone than in person.. & btw.. older remotes (can't remember which model) u could program it to rf.. one of the first ones I did over 1yr ago.

PATIENCE & WATCHING LIGHTS.. follow instructions, reading instruction.. will always be the best way..

most recievers have info in menu.. it is on dtv.com.. & if u have a replacement.. it is in manual.. several ways for info to be available.

I'm just surprised anyone would have trouble programming these universal remote. My first experience I was dumbfounded at how easy it was, with the on-screen instructions.

The hardest thing for me was realizing the instructions continued, right off the bottom of the screen, and it's not intuitive how to scroll down. That aside, these things are a cinch.

well at the time.. I was a new employee.. & I still had the old phillips irds.. so I didn't have the instructions on the screen.. so it was kinda entertaining to hold remote & read instructions at same time.. but after doing a bunch of them. I decided to use the new remote to that ird instead of the old beloved blue universal..

but in May 06 I upgraded & wow.. guess what the remote was reprogrammed for the ird. lol..

Hey.. I'm human.. but a happy customer since 99.. later guys..
