MSG HD and NESN HD are super, but hockey in HD is the very best reguardless who is playing.

I am having a hard time watching games in SD...

Question for you guys -- I was at work and missed the Rangers 6-2 loss to Toronto -- the first time the Rangers were on MSGHD on D*. I came home and watched 'Rangers in 60' but found that it wasn't in HD and there were pillar bars on the sides.

Why if the game is shot in HD couldn't the 'In 60' replay be in HD as well?

I find this equally as annoying on NFL NET when basically all of the games are shot in HD but yet on 'Total Access' all of the clips and highlights are never in HD.

    I just don't get it ...

Not to nitpick, but why did MSG and FSNY go to the expense of HD, yet have cheaped out on the sound, no DD 5.1!!! NESN has 5.1, so does YES, but why not MSG? Typical Dolans, they'll probably withhold THAT from D* and ask for more money!

You guys are correct.. MSG HD was awesome PQ! To bad the Rangers played like crap, but it was amazing to finally get to see this channel in HD. My Christmas present arrived early. Since I don't have a DD system, I was more concern with the PQ and MSG delivered. Thank you, D*!

Most sporting events with 5.1 sound I have watched have not been all that great. To the point of not even noticing if it is 2.0 or 5.1. There are a few where the sound is spectacular but not many.

I'm more concerend with 5.1 for movies than sports. PQ is more important to me for sports than movies...most movies anyway.

The picture quality WAS awesome for sure. It's funny, because even before I had an HDTV, I always felt that SD MSG for hockey anyway looked washed out, the color was dull, but the HD PQ is awesome.

I respectfully disagree. If 5.1 is done right, it can give you almost the feeling of being at the game. 5.1 on CBS for NFL sounds awesome! So does baseball on YES. But you are right in some respect. In many cases it just seems like they turn on 5.1 but it doesn't sound a whole lot better than 2.0.

But to me, 5.1 is part of the HD experience, so might as well do it all.

Watching the Ranger game last night reminded me of the Married With Children episode where Al Bundy gets glasses. Now that he clearly sees Peg and his life around him, he gets scared and takes the glasses off.

Same thing last night with the Rangers, it was more painful to watch in crystal clear HD!

The colors look nice now, they must have redid the lights in MSG over the last 3 years. I remember the games looking very dark in spots. Either way, we have the channel now.
