I am looking forward to upgrading to Comcast's new "X1" technology when it becomes available in my area, but only when it is ready for 'prime-time'. Like most new STBs, whomever the provider, there are bugs to be exterminated. According to comments in Comcast's X1 user forum, there are a ton of bugs in the software. One such post in the forum is a classic:

I prefer not to suffer the frustration of being a conscripted and unpaid beta tester. To me, that's like trying to change a tire with the car still going, so I'll wait a while longer for X1.

You can even beta test X2 now as well. On the X1 box remote push EXIT EXIT 9 2 9 2. It will load the X2 next gen guide. If you get stuck exiting an app (frozen video) press the blue B button to exit (not documented yet). If you don't like X2, you can go back to X1 just by typing EXIT EXIT 9 2 9 2 again.

DirecTV's not the only company with a field open beta anymore. Only Comcast's is live switchable in and out any time you want. That's the power of cloud I guess.

Heard a lot of good things about X1 (and now even X2). Also heard the bad. X1 is very new so where will people voice their opinions? The internet of course. The big thing is that the signal has to be very good. Every keystroke goes upstream to the cloud. You have a marginal or noisy upstream, then your going to have a slow and horrible experience.
