Try not to use the red reset button unless the unit is unresponsive. Reboot by going to Menu>Parental Fav's & Setup>System Setup>Reset>Restart Receiver...

The blue lights on the front on the unit will go off after several seconds... As soon as they come back on, then start pressing 02468... Don't wait for the welcome screen... Press them firmly and fairly quickly...

Are you using IR or RF?

Also, why are you trying to force a software download? Your unit should download the current NR on its own..

I have tried the menu reset too.

using RF on one box and IR on two...none of which are doing the trick.

You are not one version behind. Only select areas have received 0x256.

The only difference is the following item from the release notes:

R22 receivers only: 0x0256 adds stability for local channel tuning in some markets.

So basically, you can force a download until your heart is content, but you will get 0x255 each time you do so. This is expected behavior.
I have to say, your attitude is neither appreciated nor welcomed.

With that said, if someone feels the need to have the latest software regardless of the reason, that's their choice. I was not looking for critique as to my reasoning or methods.

Just trying to figure out why it would not work....Which is still the case, IT WILL NOT WORK!

Great .. So you don't like my explanation and instead choose to take it as "attitude" The fact remains that you cannot get a different version of the firmware than 0x255. You may want to, you may think it is your "right" but you cannot do it.

This is not my choice .. This is how DIRECTV has chosen to do business. I am merely passing the information to you, so please don't shoot the messenger.

And the "why it will not work" is because your receiver is not authorized by DIRECTV to receive a version higher than 0x255. When you issues your forced download request I'm sure that you are seeing a "Downloading" screen. You are indeed downloading the latest version that your receiver is authorized to receive. In this case, it is 0x255 .. Sorry, those are the facts ..

I work with members every week that can't force a download, but with this "line" [aka attitude], I'm not sure anybody would want to help. :nono:

JungleLand... you want to take a cheap shot at someone, aim it my way... but Doug Brott has helped more people with more problems and with more patience then anyone I know... and he does it all without an attitude... and you will never get less than an honest answer from him.

If you were smart, you would apologize.:nono2:

My only question is what do you mean by "Which is still the case, IT WILL NOT WORK!" In your first post you seem to indicate that you don't see the download start at all.

If it is not doing the download at all something isn't working right because you should be able to force the download at any time. Personally I usually press the 0 2 4 6 8 as soon as the blue ring turns on and that seems to work for me. You want a slow and steady rate of pressing the buttons so to speak. Not a quick tap but not a press and hold either.

With that said as others have pointed out there is rarely a reason to force a download outside of

a) a brand new receiver or one that hasn't been hooked up for quite a while.

b) to participate in the CE program.

Any other situation the receiver is going to have gotten the latest firmware it can get on it's own so forcing a download won't get you a newer version. As noted the 255 and 256 are both the current National releases depending on what is available in your area. If you have either then there isn't anything newer to get.
