Generally when that happens it means you had signal loss in the middle of the recording. Have any other recordings done this?
0x4cd or bad Hard Drive on my HR34
Recorded a basketball game yesterday. Upon playing it back, the picture froze at the 19 minute mark. The only thing that would unfreeze the picture was to repeatedly press the FAST FORWARD button. Then it jumped to the 1:12 mark. Nothing would get the DVR to play the missing section of the basketball game, i.e. from the 19 minute mark to the 1 hour and 12 minute mark. Anybody have a similar experience? Is this 0x4cd or a bad hard drive? Thanks!

I believe this could be a hard drive issue, or a reception issue if you had bad weather in the area. It doesn't necessarily mean your hard drive is trashed, it might have just been an issue with what happened at that time/place.
If it starts happening more often, and you know that it isn't weather related then I would recommend calling DirecTV and requesting a replacement HR34.
There are also some hard drive tests you can run on the HR34, but I don't remember how to do it off the top of my head. You could try searching in this forum for the instructions or just wait around a bit as I'm sure one of the guys who know the instructions will be by and post them.

Please post back with your signal readings for each satellite's transponders (and both tuners if applicable). You'll find these readings under "Menu" -> "Setup" -> "System Setup" -> Satellite -> "View Signal Strength". Note the "+" and "-" symbols next to the "Satellite" and "Tuner" entries where you can toggle the readings between the various satellites and both DVR tuners.
Fill in your readings for each satellite and tuner using these examples. A properly aligned dish will show 80-90s on most of the relevant transponders (although some will be low or zero):
Satellite transponders (32 total at 101º)

I've had that issue when we recently had heavy clouds and rain. As was mentioned, it lost signal at some points and it skipped that section.
Weather was good. Have have not had this happen before, but one time the DVR recorded only one frame of a program. Here are my signal strengths:

Well, those readings could be a bit higher on the HD satellites, especially 99º(c). They should be up in the high 80-90s.
I forgot to mention that the DTV service guy said sunspots could be causing my problems. Are we still having sunspots? Does that make any sense? There was a hockey channel that was out last night for about 30 minutes or so and the screen had the "sorry.... bla bla bla" message.

We certainly are, though really small inactive ones, but I agree that's BS. not saying they can't cause issues, because they can eject matter that does affect satellites, but if that happens, it won't be just you. And probably we'll have more issues than just DirecTV.
