1 TB internal Will this work?

I have tried multiple configurations trying to find success with the HR20-700 and an eSATA External HD. My last attempt involved an Antec MX-1 enclosure and a 750GB Western Digital Hard Drive. Any time the box would reset the hard drive would completely reformate itself, I understand this is an all too common occurrence for some of us less fortunate HD junkies. I thought perhaps the eSata port was bad, so I Got the External up and going and then swapped it with the internal hard drive. The same problem continued a reset would wipe out everything. So now I have deduced it is an issue with the WD 750GB HD, I have been using it with my pc for awhile now without issue. However I have been too scared to try again with the external storage.

My new Bright Idea!
I was looking at buying a new 1TB hard drive off of new egg and putting it in the mx-1 case. I would then swap the HR20 in the living room with the HR20 in the bedroom, I’d hook up the external to format it and then swap it out with the 300GB internal. Hopefully in doing this I could eliminate the risk of losing everything. I am about to go back to U of H and I want to be able to store the majority of the new seasons shows until the semester break. Reliability is a huge factor in this. I am budgeting $200.00 on this little endeavor; will my plan work what Hard Drive should I buy?

SAMSUNG Spinpoint F1 HD103UJ 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM - $169.99

Is this drive worth trying out?
I don't have much experience (read: any) with that enclosure, but one thing is for sure ..

SATA is SATA, so it's unlikely that the drive is what was causing you problems in the first place. It is most likely either a setting in the enclosure or some other sort of incompatibility.
I'm not clear on your reasons for swapping DVRs between rooms is but be aware that any programming that is on any HR20 disk (internal or external) will only be playable on the HR20 that it was recorded on. Additionally, if you want to use a new drive internally, just install it internally from the get go. No need to hook it up externally first.
One more thing.... have you tried using the disk on your other HR20? If it always reformats on the other HR20 too both internal and external, it's probably an issue with the disk, so try a different one.

The 750GB hard drive I used previously would reformat on reboot whether installed internally or externally in the MX-1. I am of the opinion that it is an issue with the hard drive that was caused by the eSata port. My primary motivation for switching out my bedroom and living room dvr is that I want to keep the programs on the one in the living room. I do not mind losing everything on the other one. I am going to order the Samsung.

I'm using the Western Digital "AV-GP WD10EVCS" 1TB drives in a pair of HR21-700's with good results - I've never had any glitches. This drive is $174.99 w/ free shipping at buy.com.

Went with it and I have had it up and running successfully for a month now
